Job Title: Electrical Designer
Location: Huntsville, AL
Duration: 12 Months - Onsite
Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical & I&C Designer to prepare detailed electrical and instrumentation & controls (I&C) design packages for complex industrial and power system projects. This role requires strong technical design capabilities, CAD proficiency, and a solid understanding of electrical systems, industry standards, and multidisciplinary engineering workflows. The ideal candidate will excel at managing multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed electrical and I&C drawings, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and functional control logic diagrams (FCLDs).
- Utilize SMAP 3D Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD tools to develop high-quality design deliverables.
- Create cable design drawings including schematics, physical layouts, BOMs, assembly notes, and projections.
- Produce designs suitable for manufacturing, installation, and testing phases.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams to ensure design alignment across disciplines.
- Manage and prioritize multiple project assignments to meet schedule and quality requirements.
- Identify design issues and propose effective technical solutions during design and implementation.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, components, and design principles.
- Experience in Industrial Controls Systems Design and Industrial Automation Systems (highly preferred).
- Familiarity with PLC-based system design and integration (a strong plus).
- Knowledge of industry standards including:
- ANSI Y14.100 and related drawing standards
- IEC 61082 and IEC 60617
- NEC and NECA electrical standards
- UL 508A for control panel design (preferred)
- Experience in nuclear industry or other NQA-1 quality-driven environments (strong plus).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Preferred experience working with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in Drafting & Design or equivalent electrical design experience (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (preferred).
- Proficiency in CAD-based electrical design software.
- Ability to interpret and apply electrical design codes and standards.
- Experience in industrial, automation, or nuclear project environments (preferred).
