About the Role
This position will provide hands-on support for broadcast production systems, IT equipment, streaming technologies, audio/video systems, transmission equipment, and field production infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience in television, multimedia production, broadcast maintenance, or IT client support, along with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. The role is primarily field-based and may involve supporting live events at various locations throughout the Washington, DC area. The position requires flexibility, strong customer service skills, the ability to work under pressure, and willingness to travel on short notice.
Responsibilities
- Operate satellite trucks and/or portable satellite, microwave, and streaming equipment to support multi-path IP, video, and audio transmissions from outside broadcast locations.
- Transport, set up, operate, break down, and maintain broadcast transmission equipment.
- Support mobile production platforms and systems including:
- Cameras
- Video switchers
- Routers
- Encoders
- RF equipment
- MIMO
- COFDM
- Bonded cellular technologies
- Provide technical support for streaming, audio, video, and remote broadcast production equipment.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair sophisticated broadcast and IT equipment.
- Support broadcast equipment at bureau locations and remote production sites.
- Coordinate technical installations with vendors, production teams, and other technical personnel.
- Troubleshoot and repair broadcast and computer equipment at the board level.
- Assist with maintenance, equipment upgrades, projects, and technical installations.
- Document system anomalies, operational procedures, quality standards, reference materials, and project activities.
- Use AutoCAD for system documentation and ITSM ticketing tools to document incidents and service requests.
- Maintain adequate inventory of parts, equipment, and technology supplies.
- Coordinate with procurement and asset management teams to order and track required equipment and parts.
- Provide professional customer service and technical support to production and news partners.
- Work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering and technical teams.
- Adapt quickly to changing requirements and unexpected situations in field environments.
Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in television, multimedia content, IT client service, broadcast maintenance, or a related technical environment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair broadcast and computer equipment at the board level.
- Experience supporting live production or television/multimedia production workflows.
- Basic understanding of servers, networking topology, and operating systems such as Windows and/or Unix.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure and fast-paced environments.
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to work independently.
- Ability to ask questions, identify issues, and proactively support the broader technical team.
- Ability to work flexible schedules associated with a 24x7x365 production environment.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders for equipment and cable installation assignments.
- Willingness and ability to travel on short notice.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with broadcast technology manufacturers such as Sony, Harmonic, Evertz, or similar.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or Visio.
- Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) processes and ticketing systems.
- Microsoft networking certification or similar technical certification.
- Software programming or scripting experience, including HTML, VB, C , or scripting languages.
- Bilingual or multilingual capabilities.
- Experience working with proprietary broadcast equipment and applications.
