- Job Summary:
- The HIM Operations Supervisor provides leadership and supervision to the HIM Operations teams. This role is responsible for administrative matters related to health information and oversees the daily activities of the HIM Operations teams. The supervisor is primarily responsible for managing, directing, and coordinating all HIM operational workflows.
- The supervisor will build and maintain working relationships with other departments to ensure timely resolution of issues within HIM workflows. Additionally, this role ensures regulatory compliance and incorporates strong customer service principles into daily responsibilities.
- Job Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and guidance for all HIM processes and staff related to chart completion, medical record integrity, release of information, scanning, patient identity, and chart correction.
- Identify and implement changes in policies, productivity standards, and quality measures while ensuring staff performance meets established expectations.
- Evaluate staff performance annually, including productivity and quality metrics, and ensure adherence to departmental standards.
- Perform administrative duties such as preparing and approving work schedules and timecards.
- Represent the Health Information Management department and attend meetings as assigned.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.
- This position supports the reduction of supervisory span of control. One supervisor will continue overseeing chart completion and scanning, while this contractor supervisor will be responsible for patient identity and chart correction.
- The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in patient identity management, including patient merging and overlays, as well as experience handling chart correction cases, preferably within Epic.
- The role also involves leading a small team of analysts.
- Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of HIM experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible team leadership experience.
- Proficiency in Epic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Preferred Skills & Experience:
- At least one (1) year of experience with the Cures Act and HIPAA Privacy Rules.
- At least four (4) years of leadership experience.
- Experience with OnBase.
- Education Requirements:
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
- Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field.
- OR
- Master’s degree in Healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
- Certification & Licensure:
Required:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from AHIMA upon hire.
- Preferred:
- Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) or Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) from AHIMA.
- Epic certification.
