GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Foster Social Worker is responsible for providing intensive social work services in serious and complicated cases which require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques. Services are provided in a variety of settings including the office and community and may require work outside of the standard work hours of 8am-5pm. The Foster Care Social Worker will also adhere to policies and procedures related to the foster care program as outlined by the agency, state, and federal governing bodies. The Foster Care Social Worker will build relationships with agency staff and community stakeholders to ensure effective communication and education related to the foster care program and other services offered by the agency. The Foster Care Social Worker will ensure that the assigned homes are in compliance with agency, state, and federal regulations.

WORK DUTIES AND TASKS

  • Assist with the facilitation and Co-Facilitation of pre-service training for foster parent candidates as needed. (Trauma Informed MAPP)
  • Assist with the facilitation and Co-Facilitation of ongoing training for all licensed parents as needed. (Family, Therapeutic, Intensive Alternative Family Treatment, and Respite)
  • Assess potential foster parents to ensure they meet the requirements to be licensed as Family, Therapeutic, Intensive Alternative Treatment, and/or Respite Parents. (Initial and Ongoing)
  • Conduct intakes for foster children as assigned to case load.
  • Provide face to face supervision to foster parents with current placements on a weekly basis, or more often if needed.
  • Monitor the implementation of evidence base practice, Together Facing the Challenge, by foster parents as discussed during supervision.
  • Monitor the implementation of shared parenting between the foster parents and family of permanence. Guidance shall be provided as needed.
  • Develop effective working partnerships with internal IFS employees which also provide services for children in care. (Effective communication, etc.)
  • Develop effective working partnerships with community stakeholders that may assist in providing additional support to the agency, foster parents (Fire Marshall, Law Enforcement, Department of Social Services, East Carolina Behavioral Health, Education Staff, etc.)
  • Provide Crisis Response on a rotating schedule with other foster care staff.
  • Facilitate child and family team meetings for children placed once monthly, or sooner if needed. Based on the facilitation of CFT, update person centered plan/crisis plan and submit an authorization request for designated service at least 2 weeks prior to authorization end date.
  • Review the submission of foster care progress notes by foster parents. (Quantity and Quality)
  • Complete necessary reports related to job functions as requested
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of foster parent candidates in addition to licensed parents.
  • Successfully complete routine and specialized training in order to increase skills as related to the performance of job duties/tasks
  • Participate in community education and other events that will assist with the recruitment and retention of qualified foster parents.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, MVR check and Health Care Registry Check upon hire and annually
  • No criminal convictions involving child abuse or neglect, spouse abuse, crimes against children (including child pornography), rape, sexual assault, homicide, assault, battery, or drug related offenses.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to keep strict confidentiality and work with diverse populations
