Director of Finance and Accounting

Position Overview

The Director of Finance and Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations of the organization. This position ensures the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and alignment of financial strategies with organizational goals. The Director will lead a team of finance professionals, manage budgeting and forecasting, and provide strategic insights to support decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Planning:

• Develop and implement financial strategies to support organizational objectives.
• Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO/President.

Accounting and Reporting:

• Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings.
• Manage internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to best practices.

Team Leadership:

• Supervise and mentor a team of finance and accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
• Delegate tasks effectively while ensuring high standards of performance and accuracy.

Cash Flow and Risk Management:

• Monitor and optimize cash flow to support operational needs and strategic initiatives.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks, including market, credit, and operational risks.

Process Improvement:

• Streamline financial processes and implement systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Leverage technology and data analytics to improve financial reporting and decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Collaborate with department heads to align financial goals with operational plans.
• Communicate financial performance and strategies to stakeholders, including investors and board members.
• Manage relationships with financial service providers – i.e., insurance companies, banks, CPA’s and IT services.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role. Familiarity with manufacturing preferred.

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
• Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
