Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Structural Designer to support the development of structural systems and components for complex industrial and government (DoD/DOE) projects. This role will be responsible for producing high-quality structural models, drawings, layouts, details, and design documentation for new construction, modifications, and existing facilities.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience with structural design and drafting in industrial environments and be comfortable working closely with structural engineers and multidisciplinary project teams. Strong proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD is required, along with familiarity using Autodesk Vault, ReCap, and Navisworks Manage to support model management, coordination, point-cloud applications, and design review.
Experience in highly regulated industrial, nuclear, DOE, DOW or DoD environments is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed structural design and construction drawings for industrial and government facilities, including plans, elevations, sections, details, and structural layouts.
- Produce and maintain accurate 3D structural models using Revit and detailed 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
- Develop structural framing, equipment support, platforms, stairs, ladders, foundations, steel connections, and other structural components under the direction of structural engineers.
- Interpret engineering calculations, specifications, sketches, field measurements, and design criteria and incorporate requirements into detailed design drawings and models.
- Coordinate structural designs with mechanical, electrical, civil, process, and other disciplines to identify and resolve design conflicts.
- Participate in multidisciplinary model coordination and design reviews using Navisworks Manage.
- Utilize Autodesk Vault for document, drawing, and design-file management in accordance with project requirements.
- Utilize ReCap and point-cloud data to support existing-condition modeling, facility documentation, and development of as-built or retrofit designs.
- Support site visits, field surveys, walkdowns, and collection of existing-condition information.
- Develop and update existing facility models and drawings based on field data and laser-scanned/point-cloud information.
- Assist structural engineers with design development, drawing production, calculations, material takeoffs, and technical documentation.
- Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with engineers and multidisciplinary teams to identify and resolve technical and design issues.
- Interpret and apply applicable Federal, State, and Local codes and standards, including DOE requirements where applicable.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet project schedules, budgets, and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively, ask clarifying questions, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Structural Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
- 7 years of relevant structural design/drafting experience, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, energy, nuclear, DoD, DOW or DOE environments.
- Demonstrated experience producing detailed structural design and construction drawings for industrial facilities or similar complex environments.
- Strong working proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for structural design and drafting.
- Familiarity with Navisworks Manage for 3D model coordination, clash detection, and design review.
- Familiarity with Autodesk ReCap and point-cloud data for existing-condition documentation and modeling.
- Strong understanding of structural drafting and design fundamentals, including structural steel, concrete, foundations, equipment supports, platforms, stairs, ladders, and miscellaneous metals.
- Ability to interpret structural engineering calculations, specifications, sketches, and technical requirements and translate them into accurate design drawings and models.
- Ability to coordinate structural work with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes, structural standards, and industry practices.
- Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings and maintain accurate 2D and 3D design documentation.
- Ability to meet defined project schedules and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team and hybrid environment.
- Ability to provide examples of prior design work.
- Successful completion of drug screening.
- Must meet ITAR U.S. Person requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or site badge, if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DOE, DOW, DoD, nuclear, or other highly regulated projects.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Vault for document and design-file management.Experience with industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, process facilities, or high-hazard environments.
- Experience working with existing facilities and retrofit/modification projects.
- Experience using Revit for structural modeling in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Experience with point-cloud data, laser scanning, and ReCap.
- Experience using Navisworks Manage for multidisciplinary coordination and clash detection.
- Experience working within a controlled document-management environment using Autodesk Vault.
- Field, construction, or fabrication experience.
- Familiarity with structural steel detailing, connections, concrete structures, and equipment supports.
- Experience participating in site walkdowns and field verification of existing conditions.
- Experience working directly with structural engineers and interpreting engineering direction with limited supervision.
