About the Practice
Our client is a well-established, multi-location medical practice serving the Greater New Orleans area. The practice includes six physicians, including physician owners, across three office locations, with additional business interests that include a surgery center and related real estate operations.
The practice is seeking a highly capable Director of Operations to bring structure,
accountability, financial visibility, and operational discipline to the business. This is an onsite leadership role for someone who understands the complexity of a physician-owned medical practice and can operate comfortably across people, process, revenue cycle, and owner-level priorities.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations will oversee the day-to-day business operations of the medical practice, including office administration, practice management, billing, revenue cycle performance, physician productivity, and operational coordination across three locations.
This person will directly oversee the Office Manager/Practice Manager and administrative support team, while also partnering closely with the physician owner in a weekly leadership meeting. The ideal candidate is organized, financially minded, confident working with physicians, and able to create consistency across locations while protecting the profitability and operational health of the practice.
This role is onsite five days per week, with occasional travel between practice locations.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Operations Leadership
● Oversee daily operations across three medical office locations.
● Supervise and support the Office Manager/Practice Manager responsible for EMR,
scheduling, front office workflow, and administrative coordination.
● Ensure office operations are efficient, consistent, and aligned across all locations.
● Identify operational gaps and implement process improvements that improve patient
flow, staff performance, and business outcomes.
● Visit satellite locations as needed to assess operations, support staff, and ensure
practice standards are being followed.
● Serve as a key operational partner to the physician owner.
Revenue Cycle & Billing Oversight
● Review and monitor revenue cycle performance, including collections, billing workflows,
claims follow-up, denials, and payment posting.
● Manage and support the billing department to ensure timely, accurate, and fair billing
practices.
● Track physician collections and profitability, including compensation structures tied to
collections.
● Ensure billing and collections processes are applied consistently and fairly across
physicians.
● Analyze revenue cycle trends and provide recommendations to improve collections,
reduce delays, and strengthen financial performance.
● Work with internal teams and external vendors as needed to resolve billing or
reimbursement issues.
Physician Profitability & Financial Accountability
● Monitor financial performance for four physicians under productivity-based
compensation arrangements.
● Review collections and profitability by physician to ensure accuracy, fairness, and
transparency.
● Prepare and review operational and financial reports with the owner.
● Help identify underperformance, billing gaps, or process issues affecting physician
collections.
● Support sound business decision-making with clear reporting and practical
recommendations.
Administrative, Compliance & Documentation Support
● Oversee administrative processes related to attorney letters, medical documentation
requests, 1010 forms, and other required practice paperwork.
● Ensure documentation workflows are timely, accurate, and compliant with internal
practice expectations.
● Support consistent processes for handling legal, insurance, and administrative
documentation requests.
● Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all patient, physician, and business
matters.
Qualifications
● Prior operations leadership experience in a medical practice, physician group, specialty
practice, surgery center, or healthcare business environment.
● Strong understanding of medical practice operations, including scheduling, EMR
systems, billing, collections, and revenue cycle management.
● Experience managing billing teams or overseeing revenue cycle performance strongly
preferred.
● Ability to review financial reports, collections data, and physician productivity metrics.
● Experience working directly with physicians, owners, or executive-level stakeholders.
● Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage office, administrative, and billing
teams.
● Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable creating structure in a busy practice
environment.
● Professional communication style and ability to handle sensitive financial, legal, and
patient-related information.
● Ability to work onsite five days per week and travel occasionally between office
locations.
● Experience with attorney letters, medical documentation requests, 1010 forms, or similar
administrative healthcare documentation preferred.
