QC Manager – MEP Fabrication & Construction

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced QC Manager – MEP Fabrication & Construction to lead quality control activities across fabrication, modular construction, field installation, commissioning, and final project turnover.
The QC Manager will ensure that piping, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and structural systems are fabricated and installed according to engineering drawings, client specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong experience in industrial/mechanical fabrication, piping, welding, inspections, NDE, documentation, and quality management.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
Oversee QC activities for fabricated piping, mechanical skids, modular process buildings, HVAC systems, electrical assemblies, and structural supports.
Review P&IDs, piping isometrics, fabrication drawings, equipment drawings, and electrical single-line diagrams.
Conduct in-process, dimensional, visual, and final inspections.
Coordinate NDE/NDT activities, including RT, UT, MT, and PT.
Review NDE reports and coordinate third-party inspections.
Manage welding documentation, including WPS/PQR, weld maps, welder qualifications, and traveler packages.
Ensure compliance with ASME B31.1/B31.3, AWS D1.1, NFPA 70, OSHA, and project-specific requirements.
Verify material traceability, MTRs, certifications, and receiving documentation.
Witness hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing.
Maintain NCR logs, lead root-cause investigations, and oversee corrective actions.
Manage project punch lists through final closeout.
Maintain revision-controlled drawings and quality documentation.
Ensure accurate turnover packages, spool sheets, as-built documentation, and inspection records.
Provide QC oversight during module setting, mechanical completion, commissioning, and startup.
Participate in client/owner walkdowns and coordinate punch-list closeout.
Conduct pre-shipment inspections before equipment/modules are released.
Train shop and field personnel on QC procedures and documentation requirements.
Maintain welder qualification records and coordinate qualification/requalification testing.
Required Qualifications
7 years of Quality Control experience in MEP fabrication, mechanical contracting, industrial construction, or a closely related environment.
3 years of QC leadership or supervisory experience.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering, OR an Associate's degree with 8 years of directly relevant QC/QA experience.
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, mechanical drawings, electrical single-lines, and structural drawings.
Strong knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3 and AWS D1.1.
Experience with welding inspection, WPS/PQR, weld maps, and welder qualifications.
Experience coordinating NDE/NDT – RT, UT, MT, and PT.
Experience with pressure testing and material traceability.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills for NCR, punch-list, and inspection tracking.
Comfortable working in fabrication shops and active construction environments.
Certifications
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – active certification preferred.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction – preferred.
Candidates must be able to obtain required certifications within 6 months of hire, if needed.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Regular work in a fabrication shop around welding, grinding, machinery, and construction activities.
Up to 10% travel to active construction sites.
Ability to work around elevated structures, scaffolding, and confined spaces using appropriate PPE.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during inspections.
