What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Director position at Insite US?
Director, Tax
A rapidly expanding CPA and advisory firm is looking for an experienced Tax Director to join its senior leadership team
The firm has a strong presence across the New York market and works with privately held businesses, business owners, high-net-worth individuals and families across a range of industries. Continued growth has created an opportunity for an established tax professional who wants greater influence over clients, people and the future direction of a practice.
This position sits between senior management and Partner level and is designed for someone comfortable taking ownership. You'll lead important client relationships, oversee technically complex engagements, develop Managers and Seniors, and work directly with Partners on the continued growth of the tax practice.
What You'll Take Ownership Of
You'll have responsibility for a significant portfolio of clients rather than simply reviewing returns at the end of an engagement.
Your work will include:
- Lead complex tax engagements from initial planning through review and final delivery.
- Review sophisticated individual, fiduciary, corporate, partnership and multistate tax returns.
- Advise clients on year-round tax planning rather than focusing solely on compliance.
- Research complex federal and state tax matters and determine practical solutions.
- Identify planning opportunities, potential exposures and areas where clients can improve their overall tax position.
- Serve as a senior point of contact for business owners, executives and other key client stakeholders.
- Develop a detailed understanding of clients' businesses and personal circumstances to provide commercially relevant advice.
- Oversee engagement quality, staffing, workflow, budgets and deadlines.
- Keep Partners informed of significant technical issues and developments across key relationships.
Lead People, Not Just Engagements
At Director level, developing the team will be an important part of your role.
You'll provide leadership to Managers, Seniors and Staff, helping them strengthen both their technical capabilities and confidence with clients.
This will include reviewing work, providing technical guidance, delegating effectively and creating opportunities for people to take on greater responsibility.
You'll also work alongside Partners to improve processes, strengthen technical standards and ensure the tax practice has the people and infrastructure required to support continued growth.
Help Grow the Practice
This is also a commercially focused position.
You'll be encouraged to look beyond the immediate engagement and recognise where the firm can provide additional value to its clients.
That could mean identifying new tax planning opportunities, introducing other advisory services, strengthening existing relationships or participating in new business opportunities.
For someone with Partner ambitions, the position provides meaningful exposure to the commercial and leadership responsibilities required at the next level.
Your Background
We're looking for an established public accounting tax professional with:
- 10 years of public accounting experience within a CPA firm.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Active CPA licence required.
- Significant experience managing complex tax engagements.
- Strong technical knowledge across individual, fiduciary, corporate, partnership and multistate taxation.
- Experience managing important client relationships directly.
- A track record of supervising and developing accounting professionals.
- Strong technical research and tax planning capabilities.
- Confidence communicating complex issues to clients in straightforward terms.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Ability to balance multiple engagements and competing deadlines without compromising quality.
Why This Opportunity?
The firm is going through a significant period of growth, creating opportunities for senior professionals who want to have a voice in how the practice develops.
Rather than stepping into a narrowly defined Director position, you'll have the opportunity to influence client strategy, team development, operational improvements and future growth.
You'll benefit from a flexible hybrid environment, direct access to senior leadership and a platform that supports continued professional development.
Most importantly, this is an opportunity for an experienced tax professional who has reached senior leadership level but still wants somewhere they can build, influence and progress toward Partner rather than simply maintain an existing portfolio
