What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Associate Auditor position at Insite US?
Senior Audit Associate – Affordable Housing
Location: Boston, MA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – approximately 3 days per week in office
Experience: 3 Years
A leading CPA and advisory firm is looking for a Senior Audit Associate to join its specialist Affordable Housing practice in Boston.
This is a strong opportunity for someone already working in public accounting who wants to take greater ownership of engagements while developing a valuable specialism within the real estate sector.
You'll work with an established team of audit professionals at all levels, including Managers, Senior Managers and Partners, with plenty of opportunity for direct client exposure and continued progression.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Audit Associate, you'll start taking ownership of engagements rather than simply completing individual sections of the audit.
You'll be involved throughout the process – from initial planning and scheduling through fieldwork, team supervision and final deliverables.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Act as the engagement lead across assigned Affordable Housing audit clients.
- Take responsibility for pre-engagement planning and preparation.
- Develop detailed audit work plans and engagement schedules.
- Assist with establishing engagement budgets and monitoring progress against them.
- Coordinate fieldwork and ensure key deadlines are achieved.
- Prepare and review audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Communicate directly with clients throughout engagements.
- Identify accounting or audit issues and work with Managers to resolve them.
- Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of assigned engagement work.
- Support Managers and Partners through the completion and delivery of engagements.
Team Leadership
You'll also begin developing the people-management skills required to progress toward Audit Manager.
You'll supervise Associates and Interns across your engagements, helping allocate work, answer questions and keep assignments moving.
You'll be expected to provide regular feedback and coaching while acting as a point of support for less experienced members of the team.
As your experience develops, you'll gain increasing responsibility for client relationships, engagement management and team leadership.
Affordable Housing
The position sits within a dedicated Affordable Housing practice, giving you the opportunity to develop genuine industry expertise rather than remaining a generalist auditor.
You'll work alongside professionals who specialise in the sector and gain exposure to clients operating and investing across the Affordable Housing market.
Previous Affordable Housing experience would be valuable, but the key requirement is a strong public accounting audit foundation and an interest in developing within the sector.
What We're Looking For
- 3 years of public accounting experience required.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting.
- CPA designation or eligibility to sit for the CPA exams.
- Strong audit and assurance experience.
- Experience taking increasing responsibility for audit engagements.
- Ability to supervise and support junior team members.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Confidence interacting directly with clients.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
- Experience with ProSystem fx or similar audit software would be beneficial.
Why Consider It?
This is an opportunity to join an established Affordable Housing practice while continuing to build the skills required for the next stage of your career.
You'll benefit from:
- A specialist Affordable Housing client base.
- Early responsibility for managing engagements.
- Direct exposure to Managers, Senior Managers and Partners.
- Opportunities to supervise and develop junior professionals.
- Hybrid working in Boston.
- Generous paid time off.
- Comprehensive benefits.
- Professional training and CPA development support.
- Clear progression toward Audit Manager and future leadership opportunities.
For an Audit Senior who wants more ownership, stronger client exposure and a defined industry specialism, this offers an excellent next step within the Boston public accounting market.
