Overview
Our client, a well-regarded national US law firm, is recruiting a Tax Associate - Legal for its New York office on a hybrid basis. The tax group works hand in hand with the firm's M&A, private equity, venture and capital markets practices, so the work is varied, deal-driven and highly visible. Partners are looking for someone who already thinks like a law-firm tax lawyer and can take ownership of the tax side of a transaction.
What you'll be doing
- Advising on the tax structuring of mergers, acquisitions and dispositions
- Supporting private equity and venture clients on fund investments and portfolio deals
- Drafting and negotiating tax provisions in transaction documents
- Working on partnership tax, reorganisations and equity compensation matters
- Researching complex tax questions and preparing clear advice for clients
- Collaborating closely with corporate colleagues across the firm
What we're looking for
- At least three years' tax experience, ideally a rising fourth-year associate
- Law-firm tax experience is essential; a background solely in Big Four accountancy firms will not meet the brief, although a mix of the two can work well
- A JD, with an LLM in Taxation viewed positively
- New York bar admission, or eligibility to be admitted
- Strong technical writing and the confidence to explain tax issues in plain terms
