As a Principal System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Analysis of engineering hardware and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance
- Working with test and tactical operating and maintenance procedures to assure the proper administrative controls are in place
- Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
- Provide creative solutions to maximize safety functionality without impeding critical performance.
- Providing leadership in collaborations with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- Design of concise, testable safety requirements or providing safety analysis of existing requirements
- Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
- Placement in challenging or under-performing programs with the expectation of improvement of the safety program
- Managing multiple-large system safety programs or a safety product line
- Collaborating with other disciplines during program technical execution
- Interfacing with key stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
- Mentoring Multiple Jr. Engineers
- Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
- Streamlining processes and reports across a product line for improved efficiency
- Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
- Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience OR an Associate’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience. In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
- Secret Clearance
Required Skills
- Experience with: System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering experience in areas such as Aerospace, Automotive or Medical Device.
- Active secret clearance
- System thinking and the desire to influence the program as a whole
- Experience with industry System Safety Programs (especially in DoD or Aerospace fields)
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- Experience working with US Military programs
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Compensation:
$65/hr to $80/hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
