NOC Engineer III (Senior Network Operations Engineer)
Insight Global is partnering with a regionally based telecom carrier to bring on a NOC Engineer III, a senior-level technical leader within the Network Operations Center. This role serves as a primary escalation point for complex network issues across voice, data, and transport environments in a 24/7 setting.
You’ll play a critical role in maintaining network performance and reliability, while also mentoring engineers, driving resolution of high-impact incidents, and contributing to cross-functional initiatives and network planning efforts. This is a hands-on, high-visibility position suited for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Act as the top escalation point for critical network issues across voice, data, and transport systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents impacting network performance in a 24/7 NOC environment (including on-call responsibilities)
- Collaborate with internal teams and third-party vendors to drive timely issue resolution and meet service-level expectations
- Perform network upgrades, hardware configuration, and post-implementation validation
- Monitor network performance, conduct testing, and drive continuous improvements to ensure scalability and reliability
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams and knowledge base materials (Visio)
- Support and mentor NOC team members, helping elevate overall team capability
- Participate in cross-functional projects and represent the NOC in architecture discussions and network planning initiatives
- Manage competing priorities independently in a fast-paced operational environment
What You Bring (Required)
- 5 years of experience in a Tier II/III Network Operations or similar engineering role
- OR 8 years of relevant hands-on experience in lieu of a degree
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across voice and/or data networks
- Experience acting as an escalation point in a 24/7 NOC environment with on-call responsibilities
- Hands-on experience with network hardware, including:
- Routers, Layer 2/3 switches, firewalls, and related devices
- Experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and/or ISIS (data-focused candidates)
- Experience with VoIP and voice technologies, such as SIP, PRI, or TDM (voice-focused candidates)
- Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and drive issue resolution through third-party providers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including customer-facing interactions
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation (including Visio diagrams)
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently in a high-pressure environment
- Experience supporting cross-functional teams and contributing to both operational and project-based initiatives
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- CCNA or CCNP certification
- Additional industry certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Fortinet, Adtran, VeloCloud, etc.)
- Deep expertise in a specific domain: Data, Voice, or Transport
- Experience with performance testing, SLA adherence, and MTTR optimization
- Knowledge of telecom systems and functions such as PSTN, long-distance interconnects, LNP, CNAM, STIR/SHAKEN
- Familiarity with telecom protocols including SS7, ISDN, SIP, GR-303, or PTS
- Experience configuring and testing carrier circuits (DS1, DS3, optical) and associated equipment
- Background in network architecture or engineering design decisions
- Experience developing and delivering technical training programs within a NOC or operations environment
