What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Insight Global?
Are you a sharp, self‑driven estimator who thrives on turning complex plans into winning bids? We’re looking for a Preconstruction Estimator with strong mechanical experience to help drive accurate, competitive estimates on projects up to $5M across HVAC, piping, sheet metal, and plumbing scopes.
In this role, you’ll play a critical part in shaping projects from concept to construction—working closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to make smart, strategic decisions before work ever hits the field.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents to define scope and project requirements
- Perform detailed take‑offs and develop accurate labor and material cost estimates
- Prepare and deliver competitive bid proposals for mechanical construction projects
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain pricing on materials, equipment, and services
- Identify project risks, value‑engineering opportunities, and cost‑saving strategies
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and subcontractor negotiations
- Stay current on market trends, industry pricing, and regulatory impacts to estimating strategies
What We’re Looking For
- 3 years of estimating experience in mechanical contracting (HVAC, piping, sheet metal, plumbing)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and best practices
- Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Advanced analytical and math skills with high attention to detail
- Experience estimating retrofit and remodel projects from conceptual designs
- Proficiency with estimating software such as FastPipe, FastDuct, QuoteSoft, or similar tools
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office and strong organizational skills
