Job Description
Insight Global is looking for an Electrical Controls Engineer to join their team.
The Electrical Controls Engineer will own automation and machine design projects from concept through implementation, serving as the technical lead throughout the entire project lifecycle. Responsibilities include designing automated manufacturing and material handling equipment, creating electrical schematics, developing PLC, HMI, servo, safety, and robotic programs, and supporting equipment procurement through detailed specifications.
Depending on the phase of the project, the role may involve significant design and programming work at a desk or hands-on support on the manufacturing floor alongside machine build teams. During machine startup and commissioning, the engineer will troubleshoot electrical and design issues, debug programs, teach robot points, and refine system performance.
This individual will coordinate closely with mechanical, manufacturing, and leadership teams to evaluate changes, make technical decisions, manage project schedules and budgets, and drive projects to successful completion.
The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and manufacturing efficiency, with occasional support for machine installations, startup activities, and troubleshooting efforts.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related engineering discipline
3-5 years of industrial controls engineering experience
Experience owning projects from design through startup and commissioning
Strong PLC, HMI, and servo programming & coding experience (Studio 5000)
Hardware design
Robotics programming & maintenance experience
AutoCAD experience
Nice to have skills
Familiar with industry standards: NFPA, NEC, ISO, safety standards
