Insight Global is partnering with a growing automotive dealership group in the Los Angeles area to hire a Payroll Director to oversee and lead their centralized payroll operations.
About the Role
This individual will step into a highly visible leadership role, managing payroll for a multi-location organization operating under a center-of-excellence model across HR, accounting, and payroll. The Payroll Director will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across a complex, commission-driven environment. This role will lead a team of payroll professionals, strengthen existing processes, and drive operational improvements while maintaining compliance with California payroll laws and regulations. Responsibilities
- Oversee full-cycle payroll processing for a multi-entity automotive organization with commission-based compensation structures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state (California), and local payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws
- Manage and develop a team of payroll specialists, providing mentorship, coaching, and performance oversight
- Review and improve payroll processes, controls, and reporting to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and leadership teams to support business operations and resolve payroll-related issues
- Handle complex payroll scenarios, including commissions, draws, and variable compensation structures
- Lead payroll reporting and analytics to provide insights into payroll trends and performance
- Support audits and ensure proper documentation and compliance standards are maintained
Qualifications
- 7 years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity
- Strong experience managing payroll in a high-volume, commission-based environment
- Deep understanding of California payroll laws and regulations
- Proven experience managing and developing a payroll team
- Strong attention to detail and ability to navigate complex payroll structures
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders
Required Skills

Pay range and compensation package
$130,000 – $160,000 base salary
