Day to Day:
The Critical Facility Technician (CFT) on the energization team performs rack and energization tasks under supervision, including electrical terminations and testing. They apply Lockout Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safety while working on electrical equipment. The technician uses voltmeters and other diagnostic tools to verify electrical parameters such as AC/DC voltage, current, and resistance. They read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and one-line diagrams to support energization and maintenance activities. The role also involves monitoring mechanical systems, including valves, pumps, and cooling units like the Vertiv CDU, to ensure proper operation. They collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines while maintaining strict safety standards. Additionally, they participate in audits and inspections before energization to confirm system readiness.
Must-Have:
- Experience with Lockout Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures and understanding of electrical safety protocols
- Proficient in using a voltmeter with knowledge of reading AC/DC voltage, DC current, resistance, and other basic functions
- Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics and one-line diagrams
- Mechanical knowledge of valves, pumps, pressures, and familiarity with cooling systems such as CDU (Vertiv chiller units)
- Electrical background preferably in an industrial setting (e.g., gas-fired power plants, gas pumping stations) with experience in electrical terminations, lug connections, and resistance testing
- Practical experience or apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical trades with the ability to confidently discuss technical topics without hesitation
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn on the job
Pluses:
- Experience working in commercial mechanical environments (large-scale buildings, hotels, apartments)
- Background in wind turbine farms or solar farms, demonstrating electrical skills and strong work ethic
