A small, well‑established civil engineering consulting firm in Helena, MT is looking for a Project Engineer to join its team. This role offers the chance to work on impactful civil water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Montana while taking ownership of complex work and contributing directly to high‑quality project delivery.
You’ll play a key role in planning, designing, and supporting construction of water and wastewater systems, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards. What You’ll Do
- Support and lead design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pump stations, treatment components, and site/utility improvements.
- Produce detailed engineering plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, utilities, stormwater, site layouts).
- Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Perform engineering calculations, feasibility assessments, and site evaluations.
- Conduct field visits to monitor construction progress and project conditions.
- Communicate directly with clients, contractors, and local partners.
- Assist with permitting, funding support, and project documentation.

Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 4 years of hands‑on experience in site development or municipal civil engineering projects
- Expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D – including a solid understanding of grading, utility/stormwater systems and design, and site layout
- Prior experience in a construction management or project engineer/manager role for civil or heavy‑civil projects
- Working knowledge of construction estimating, contract administration, and reviewing technical plans or drawings
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and attention to detail, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a small‑team environment

Location Requirement
This role is onsite in Helena, MT. Candidates must be in or willing to relocate to the Helena area.
Compensation:
$80,000 to $100,000 per year annual salary.
