What are the responsibilities and job description for the AI Lab Engineer position at Insight Global?
Position: AI Lab Engineer
Location: Mountain View, CA
Duration: 12 month contract extensions
Pay: $35/hr.
Role Summary:
We are looking for a builder, not a chatbot tinkerer. This role is for an engineer who can design, deploy, and scale autonomous AI agents that don’t just respond—but reason, take action, and execute multi‑step workflows.
As a Lab Automation Engineer, you will develop agentic systems that integrate AI decision‑making with real‑world hardware and RF lab environments. Your work will sit at the intersection of software intelligence and physical test execution, enabling AI agents to operate lab equipment, run experiments, interpret results, and automate complex testing workflows end‑to‑end.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Information Engineering, or a related technical field
- Agent‑First Mindset: Strong understanding of agent architectures, RAG, and reasoning chains—and the ability to debug when they fail
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python or Java, with experience writing clean, async‑capable code optimized for latency
- Cloud & Data Fundamentals: Experience with cloud platforms, data storage, and SQL‑based systems
- Hardware Curiosity: Willingness to work hands‑on with lab equipment and automate physical testing processes
- Systems Thinking: Ability to design AI systems as feedback loops, not linear scripts
Preferred Experience:
- Builder Background: 1–3 years of experience in software engineering, ML infrastructure, or AI system deployment
- Web & Full‑Stack Exposure: Familiarity with JavaScript / Node.js for supporting full‑stack AI applications
- Low‑Code / Orchestration Tools: Experience with low‑code AI orchestration or application builders
- Agentic Portfolio: GitHub, side projects, or demos showcasing agent‑based systems or automation workflows
Salary : $35
