Job Description
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Student Athlete Development Coordinator position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).
The Student-Athlete Development Coordinator will support the holistic development of Brown's 1000 student-athletes, with a primary focus on the day-to-day operations of academic support systems within the Student-Athlete Development unit. This position will facilitate the Athletics Tutor and Academic Coaching Programs, ensuring effective implementation, communication, and accountability across both programs.
The Coordinator will report to the Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Development to strengthen academic support structures, monitor student-athlete academic progress, and implement proactive strategies that promote retention, eligibility, and graduation.
In addition to supporting academic services, the Coordinator will contribute to leadership programming, divisional initiatives, and unit-wide efforts that enhance the overall student-athlete experience. This position reports to the Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Development. A strong commitment to equity and inclusion is embedded in all our efforts.
Education And Experience

Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).

Education And Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 2-4 years of prior experience working in a collegiate athletics department, preferably in student-athlete services, administration or academic support.
- Experience in student-athlete academic services and life skills.
- Prior experience as a competitive collegiate student-athlete preferred.
- Experience working with SAAC and other Affinity Groups preferred.

- Strong commitment to and demonstrated skills for working with and advising students from diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences.
- Demonstrated experience in building and advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives for students and coaches.
- Ability to work with student athletes of color and provide support, mentorship, and resource referrals.
- Knowledge of NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills with a variety of programs and social media platforms.
- Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files, maintain confidentiality and excellent customer service.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer aptitude for learning new software and problem solving required.
- Proficiency in word processing, and spreadsheets required.
- Flexible to change and interruptions, manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required.
- Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
