Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, Organizational Development, Communication, Instructional Design, English, Human Resources, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Four years of experience in the design, implementation, and ongoing coordination of professional development programs or related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose Of Position
Performs complex managerial work coordinating professional development opportunities for Sam Houston State University employees. Designs and implements organizational development programs, activities, events, and employee assessment and coaching that increase the knowledge and skill level of leaders and employees. Serves as a member of the Human Resources Employee Engagement team and supports departmental initiatives and objectives.
Primary Responsibilities
Manages the work of assigned staff and oversees the planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of professional development programs and related initiatives for University employees. Researches, develops, and implements training opportunities; identifies emerging training needs; partners with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to align learning with institutional competencies; and develops tools to assess training effectiveness and impact. Designs and presents training sessions to support employee development, workplace effectiveness, and institutional initiatives. Evaluates training outcomes and updates content as needed to ensure quality and impact. Serves as the administrator and primary point of contact for the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring content is reviewed, tested, and maintained. Oversees the University’s Annual Performance Appraisal process and compliance training efforts, including tracking, reporting, and process improvement. Coordinates and manages departmental communications to support employee learning, engagement, and program awareness. Uses University systems and communication platforms to create, schedule, and distribute notifications and announcements on behalf of the department. Facilitates and supports leadership development programs by coordinating logistics, securing speakers, and delivering content. Interprets and ensures compliance with applicable policies, rules, and regulations, and recommends operational improvements based on trends, metrics, and program outcomes. Develops reports, monitors budgets, establishes priorities and standards, and recommends improvements to enhance operational effectiveness and employee development. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to manage business functions. Prepares communication and advertising material regarding employee professional development and Human Resources programs. Communicates with University departments, administrators, faculty, staff, student employees, State and Federal agencies, and outside vendors. Position requires confidentiality, initiative, and attention to detail and accuracy in all assignments.
Travel may be required for professional development training or conferences.
