Primary Purpose Of The Organizational Unit:

Campus Enterprises is a portfolio of self-supporting auxiliary operations and strategic service units that support the academic, research, and community service mission and student experience of UNCG. Units include, but are not limited to, Dining Services, Bookstore, ID Center, Parking Operations and Campus Access Management, Vending, Postal Services, Real Estate, Sustainability, and other auxiliary and enterprise operations. Campus Enterprises comprises over 350 full-time and contracted services staff and has an annual operating budget of approximately $31 million across over 30 distinct funds.

Position Summary:

The Director of Finance and Resource Management serves as the senior financial leader for Campus Enterprises and is responsible for comprehensive financial stewardship, resource management, and strategic financial planning across all Campus Enterprises operations. This position provides leadership over budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, human resources, process improvement, and long-term financial modeling for a complex portfolio of auxiliary, fee-supported, and trust-funded operations. The Director partners closely with Campus Enterprises leadership, University Budget and Controller offices, Human Resources, and external partners to ensure sound fiscal management, regulatory compliance, and alignment with UNCG and UNC System policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field with 3 years of financial experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, and accounting in a complex organization.
  • Experience with financial analysis, forecasting, and development of budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, auxiliary services, or public-sector finance.
  • Supervisory or management experience leading a small team.
  • Knowledge of UNC System, State of North Carolina financial policies, and enterprise financial systems.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

Key Responsibility:

Strategic Financial Budgeting, Planning, and Analysis

Essential Tasks:

  • Lead multi-year financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling for Campus Enterprises operations, including auxiliary, student fee-supported, and trust funds.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic initiatives, new business ventures, pricing strategies, and capital planning.
  • Analyze financial performance, trends, and variances; translate complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Actively monitor and evaluate contractual financial performance, capital investment commitments, revenue-sharing provisions, and compliance with contract terms to ensure alignment with financial expectations, risk tolerance, and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Direct the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets for Campus Enterprises.
  • Oversee budget revisions, funding requests, rate and fee proposals, and reserve planning in coordination with University budget and finance offices.
  • Ensure effective cash flow management and appropriate use of reserves to meet operational, capital, and debt service obligations.
  • Serve as primary financial advisor to Campus Enterprises leadership on budgetary and fiscal matters.

Financial Operations and Management

Essential Tasks:

  • Coordinate and oversee all accounting procedures, activities, and reporting for all departments in Campus Enterprises.
  • Ensure departmental operations comply with regulations and reporting requirements of the University, System Office, and state and federal regulators.
  • Manages the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all departments in Campus Enterprises.
  • Monitor all revenues and expenses, identify and summarize trends, and report irregularities.
  • Monitor cash inflows and outflows for optimum cash management.
  • Develop and maintain processes for interdepartmental transfers or business partner chargebacks.

Key Responsibility:

Human Resources Management

Essential Tasks:

  • Coordinate and oversee human resources–related activities for Campus Enterprises in collaboration with the University’s Human Resources office.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Campus Enterprises and Human Resources on matters including position management, recruitment and hiring processes, compensation actions, organizational changes, and employee relations.
  • Provide guidance to Campus Enterprises leadership on HR policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and compliance with University, UNC System, and State of North Carolina requirements.
  • Support workforce planning, position classification reviews, and organizational design efforts in alignment with strategic and financial objectives.

  • Provide leadership and supervision to finance and accounting staff within Campus Enterprises.
  • Support talent development through training, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, service excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
