Changing Obstacles by Motivating Positive Accountability for Student Success (COMPASS)

COMPASS is a multi-dimensional program designed to support a holistic college experience for students with extenuating circumstances, particularly students phasing out of foster care, students experiencing financial or housing insecurity, or students in the State's custody. The program coordinates resources, training, and support throughout the student's entire four-year journey.

Using the framework of the Seven Dimensions of Wellness, the program acknowledges the importance of mentorship; social, mental, and physical health support; financial assistance; leadership development; interpersonal, social, communication, and relationship skills; academic assistance; and stable housing, all of which contribute to the success of every student.

The COMPASS Crisis Management/Resource Counselor is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for COMPASS students to increase student retention, success, and completion. This position works closely with identified students in the COMPASS program to encourage positive relationships, productive behaviors and choices, and successful outcomes. The Crisis Management/Resource Counselor is expected to maintain a strong, supportive alliance with students as they navigate academics, utilize resources, work with social services, and develop coping skills needed for success in the COMPASS program.

The Crisis Management/Resource Counselor is under the direct supervision of the COMPASS Program Coordinator and assists the Coordinator in achieving the goals and objectives of the program. This position requires some evening, weekend, and extended hour work to meet the needs of the students.

This position is grant-funded and is contingent upon the availability of external funding. Employment in this role is for a limited term and will be reviewed annually based on continued funding and program needs.

Sponsorship is not available for this position.
