General Position Description

Under the Assistant Director for Student Rights and Responsibilities, this position is responsible for upholding the community standards of Valencia College by participating in the administration of the student conduct review process and supporting the Student Rights and Responsibilities team with programming, outreach, assessment, and other services. The Coordinator for Student Rights and Responsibilities serves as the conduct case manager for issues of academic dishonesty, behavioral misconduct, and organizational misconduct by gathering and considering information, determining responsibility for alleged conduct violations, and applies outcomes for students and student organizations in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. The position must use a high level of discretion to help resolve complex, sensitive matters that often involve many departments and have a potentially high impact on students’ enrollment, organizational standing or disciplinary standing, personal wellness, and finance. This position works to educate the College community on student and student organizational compliance and expectations. The Coordinator is a role model for students and represents the Student Rights and Responsibilities team, and the College in a positive and professional manner.

Salary Range

$41,447 - $47,146 per year

Description Of Job Function

  • Responsible for case management by conducting disciplinary investigations, informal conferences, informal resolutions, and disciplinary conferences in response to alleged violation(s) of the Student Code of Conduct by individual students as well as student organizations and, when appropriate, issue formal sanction(s) up to and including disciplinary suspension.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, management, and partnership of behavioral, academic, and organizational sanction(s).
  • Assist the Student Rights and Responsibilities team in completing assessment projects, marketing and providing conflict resolution services, and processing reports for student and organizational misconduct.
  • Assist in educating students, faculty, and staff regarding services available through the Student Rights and Responsibilities team; including, but not limited to, preparing any involved parties for a disciplinary conference where appropriate, and present the results of investigations directly to the faculty and student conduct board for adjudication.
  • Work closely with the Student Rights and Responsibilities team to recruit, select, train, schedule, program, plan events, and manage website related to the student conduct board.
  • Assist the Student Rights and Responsibilities team in collecting, analyzing, and organizing conduct data for annual reporting, media responses, student affairs requests, and legally required statistical reporting.
  • Supports the Student Rights and Responsibilities team in developing, implementing, programming, and event planning related to initiatives of the College’s Honor Code.
  • Supports the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of 2-4 student leaders to assist Student Rights and Responsibilities with overseeing the organizational email inbox and outreach efforts collegewide.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Education

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Field Of Study

Student Development, Higher Education, Counseling or other related areas.

Preferred Type Of Experience

Experience at a college or university setting in student conduct judicial affairs or student affairs.

Experience in student conduct or judicial affairs.

Experience developing and facilitating educational training and outreach to students

Experience in working with diverse student populations.

Experience working with Maxient.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to identify problems, develop and implement practical solutions.
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret College policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively engage to triage crisis response in a direct response role by documenting, making referrals, or seeking first responder assistance.
  • Creates and maintains conduct records as outlined in FERPA regulations.
  • Keep abreast of topical issues regarding academic integrity, student conduct administration, and organizational misconduct.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with members of the Valencia community (Students, Faculty, Staff, etc.).

General Working Conditions

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and within the community staffed by professional and student staff members. The individual in this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, die cut machines, laminators, and fax machines. Some position responsibilities require tasks outside of the office, in either a classroom setting, programming venue, or outdoors.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 25 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
