Our client is a leading independent employee benefits, insurance, retirement, and HR consulting organization serving businesses throughout the Northeast and across the United States. The firm provides a comprehensive suite of employee benefits, compliance, human resources, and retirement solutions, partnering with organizations of all sizes to help them attract, retain, and support their workforce.
Due to continued growth, the organization is seeking a Business Development Manager to expand its presence throughout the Greater Rochester market. This role is ideal for a relationship-driven professional who enjoys networking, building connections, and creating new business opportunities. The successful candidate will serve as a visible ambassador for the organization within the local business community, helping generate introductions and open doors with prospective clients.
This position offers the opportunity to join a highly collaborative and well-resourced team with strong technical expertise and support infrastructure. The Business Development Manager will focus primarily on relationship development, community engagement, and opportunity generation while partnering closely with experienced consultants and subject matter experts throughout the sales process.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan focused on generating new opportunities throughout the Rochester market and surrounding areas.
- Proactively identify and engage prospective clients through networking, referrals, community involvement, cold outreach, and relationship-building activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with business owners, C-suite executives, HR leaders, finance professionals, and other key decision-makers.
- Represent the organization at industry events, networking functions, trade associations, chambers of commerce, and community organizations.
- Establish and cultivate referral partnerships with CPAs, attorneys, bankers, wealth advisors, payroll professionals, and other centers of influence.
- Schedule and facilitate introductory meetings between prospective clients and employee benefits consulting team.
- Collaborate closely with Employee Benefits Consultants and subject matter experts to transition opportunities and support the sales process.
- Maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities through disciplined prospecting and relationship management efforts.
- Utilize CRM systems to track activity, maintain accurate records, and provide regular pipeline reporting.
- Stay informed on market trends, competitive activity, and business developments within the Rochester region.
- Serve as a brand ambassador within the local business community and actively increase awareness of company’s capabilities and services.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3 years of business development, sales, account management, relationship management, or client-facing experience.
- Life, Accident & Health License, or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe following hire.
- Demonstrated success generating leads, opening doors, and developing professional relationships.
- Strong networking and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage executive-level decision-makers.
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Experience within payroll, staffing, PEO, HR technology, banking, insurance, professional services, or a related industry is strongly preferred.
- Active involvement in professional associations, networking groups, or community organizations is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to attend networking events and meetings outside of traditional business hours when necessary.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
