Therapist – Behavioral Health (Adult / Adolescent)
Location: Memphis and Somerville, TN Locations
Department: Clinical Services PHP / IOP Services
Status: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Therapist position provides direct clinical services including assessment, treatment planning, and group facilitation for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders. This role operates within a multidisciplinary treatment team and is responsible for delivering medically necessary, evidence-based care in alignment with payer requirements and facility standards. This role supports client engagement, group facilitation, documentation, and referral coordination and can assist those in need in actively completing supervised hours toward their LADAC, LCSW, or LPC license. These individuals would work under the supervision of a LADAC II/QCS, LCSW, or LPC.
Core Responsibilities
- Complete biopsychosocial assessments that support medical necessity for admission and continued stay as assigned. If working toward licensure, this position works under the supervision of a licensed therapist.
- Facilitate evidence-based processed groups, psychoeducation groups, and family sessions, aligned with IOP and PHP levels of care.
- Perform crisis intervention and risk assessments (SI/HI, safety planning).
- Develop and update individualized, goal-driven treatment plans with measurable objectives.
- Provide individual sessions as clinically indicated.
- Document all services in the EHR or TNWITS (State of Tennessee EHR System in a timely, accurate, and payer-compliant manner) daily notes, treatment plans, reviews, discharge summaries).
- Monitor and document client progress toward treatment goals and level-of-care appropriateness
- Collaborate with Pre-Authorization/Utilization Review staff to support initial and concurrent authorizations
- Participate in case reviews, multidisciplinary team meetings, and discharge planning
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory standards, ethical guidelines, and payer policies
Payer & Compliance Expectations
- Strong understanding of medical necessity criteria, level-of-care guidelines, and documentation standards required by payers such as Optum and Oscar Health
- Ability to clearly link clinical presentation, impairments, and treatment interventions in documentation
- Timely completion of notes to support authorization and reimbursement
- Collaboration with utilization review to ensure continuity of care and minimize denials
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 1–2 years of experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment
- Experience facilitating groups required
- Knowledge of co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and recovery models
Preferred Credentials
- CADC, LCADC, LPC, LAC, LSW (or working toward licensure)
- CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist) a plus
- Lived experience in recovery is valued
