Job Description
UNC Medical Center is seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse (RN) to join its PreOp and Post Anesthesia Care team for a contract assignment in Chapel Hill, NC. The RN will provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to patients recovering from surgical procedures while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to care for patients with complex medical and surgical needs in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver competent and compassionate nursing care in the PACU and PreOp setting
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process
- Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition promptly
- Administer medications, treatments, and bedside point-of-care testing as required
- Coordinate care with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery, and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
- Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and compliance with hospital policies
- Participate in unit-based performance improvement and professional development activities
- Support continuity of care through effective communication and collaboration
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of North Carolina
- Nursing Diploma, ADN, or ASN from an accredited nursing program
- Current BLS Certification (AHA or ARC)
- Strong assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage patients with complex clinical needs
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing program
- Previous PACU, Pre-Op, or acute care hospital experience preferred
