OR Manager, Registered Nurse (RN)

Indianhead Medical Center (IMC) is a 25-bed critical access facility that has been providing quality care to the surrounding communities for over 70 years. Services include inpatient, outpatient, clinical, surgical, rehabilitation with extensive inpatient and outpatient therapies, and emergency care. We are currently seeking a dedicated and professional Nurse Manager to join the IMC family and to lead our Surgical department.

The OR Manager provides clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for peri-operative services, including pre-operative services, intra-operative services, post-anesthesia care, sterile processing activities, and related surgical services. This is a regular full-time, benefits eligible position working a schedule Monday - Friday, 8 hour days.

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the delivery of perioperative services to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered care. The Manager promotes a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and professional development while ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and evidence-based practice standards.

The OR Manager collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary departments to optimize patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and the overall patient experience. This is a working manager position that assists with surgical procedures and provides direct patient care. This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing. The OR Manager will oversee a staff of typically 3 individuals in the OR department.

The OR Manager will also have key responsibilities in these areas:

Leadership

· Provides leadership consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

· Develops departmental goals, objectives, and annual performance improvement initiatives.

· Promotes a culture of accountability, respect, teamwork, patient safety, and employee engagement.

· Leads departmental meetings and facilitates effective communication.

· Serves as a clinical and professional role model.

Clinical Operations

· Oversees daily operations of perioperative services, including patient flow, staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.

· Coordinates services across pre-op, OR, PACU, Medical-Surgical, Radiology, Laboratory, and Clinic departments.

· Ensures perioperative practices are consistent with current AORN guidelines, CDC recommendations, CMS Conditions of Participation, OSHA requirements, and Joint Commission accreditation standards.

· Assists in surgical procedures and provides direct patient care.

· Provides clinical support to other departments as needed to support organizational operations and patient care needs.

Quality, Patient Safety, and Regulatory Compliance

· Leads quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

· Monitors departmental quality indicators, including surgical site infections (SSI), medication safety, specimen management, documentation, and patient satisfaction.

· Ensures compliance with surgical time-out, medication safety, infection prevention, equipment maintenance, and sterile processing requirements.

· Ensures compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, Wisconsin Administrative Code, OSHA, infection prevention standards, and Joint Commission accreditation requirements.

· Participates in event review and improvement processes.

· Participates in accreditation surveys and regulatory inspections.

Personnel Management

· Participates in recruitment, interviewing, selection, orientation, mentoring, and performance evaluation of department staff.

· Promotes professional development and continuing education.

· Conducts competency assessments and annual performance evaluations.

· Addresses employee performance issues through coaching and progressive discipline.

· Ensures staffing plans meet operational needs.

Financial and Resource Management

· Monitors productivity, staffing utilization, overtime, and supply expenses.

· Oversees inventory management and purchasing.

· Evaluates new products, equipment, and technology to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Physician and Interdisciplinary Collaboration

· Builds collaborative relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams.

· Serves as the departmental liaison for surgical services throughout the organization.

· Supports effective communication among all departments involved in perioperative care.

Performance Improvement

· Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, patient satisfaction, safety, and clinical quality.

Uses data to monitor performance and guide decision-making.

The OR Manager at IMC must:

· Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wisconsin

· Minimum of five (5) years of perioperative/operating room nursing experience.

· Minimum of one (1) year of leadership or supervisory experience

· Current BLS certification

· Current ACLS, TNCC and PALS certification (or must be completed within 6 months of hire)

· Maintain required licensure, registration and/or certification as well as continuing education as required

· Provide professional and compassionate patient care
