JOB SUMMARY:
Under general guidelines, this position is responsible for helping the institution deliver a high-quality, workforce-aligned program that meets regional employer demand and equips students with accelerated, industry-ready skills. Provides specialized technical expertise and industry insight to support the development, launch, and ongoing improvement of the program. Responsibilities include aligning curriculum, facilities, and equipment with real-world industry practices and workforce needs, while collaborating with faculty, administrators, and industry partners to ensure high-quality, industry-relevant instruction and training pathways.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Curriculum Development & Review

Provide expert guidance in designing and updating accelerated Marine Technology courses, including:
- Marine electrical and electronic systems
- Marine auxiliary and HVAC systems
- Marine transmission: gas, diesel, inboard, and outboard systems
- Marine rigging and lifting
- Ensure all curriculum aligns with current industry standards, ABYC guidelines, recognized certifications, and employer expectations.
- Assist in developing course learning outcomes, lab activities, assessment methods, and equipment lists.
Industry Engagement & Labor Market Alignment
- Maintain regular engagement with regional marine industry stakeholders—such as marine centers, boatyards, repair facilities, engine manufacturers, and marine contractors—to validate training needs.
- Facilitate partnerships for job placement pipelines, equipment donations, guest instruction, and site visits.
- Advise on emerging technologies, sector trends, and priority employer competencies.
- Participate in advisory board meetings and provide expert insight
Training Infrastructure & Equipment Planning
- Recommend facility layouts, lab workflows, and equipment to support high-quality, hands-on training.
- Assist in designing and building specialized training systems.
- Support vendor selection, equipment acquisition, and tool standardization.
- Ensure all training infrastructure complies with marine industry safety standards and best practices.
Faculty & Program Support
- Assist in recruiting and screening qualified adjunct faculty and instructors.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to instructional staff.
- Support evaluation of faculty teaching materials and hands-on lab practices..
Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration is preferred
- Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in Marine Service, Marine Engineering, Marine Maintenance, or related field.

Demonstrated expertise in the following areas:
- Marine electrical/electronics
- Marine diesel engines, gasoline systems
- Marine air conditioning, auxiliary systems
- Structural/fiberglass repair
- Strong understanding of industry standards, best practices, tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Established connections within the regional marine industry.
- Experience working with or mentoring technicians, apprentices, or students.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Physical skills required include the ability to lift heavy boxes and materials, to move equipment from room to room, and to work for extended periods at a computer station. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
