This is skilled maintenance and repair work for Indian River County, Parks and Recreation Department. An employee in this classification is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks for grounds, buildings, structures, and equipment within the Parks and Recreation Department. Employees may typically be required to learn and participate in maintenance activities associated with a variety of skills, trades, and professions. Guidelines may be available in the form of internal policies and procedures; printed or verbal instructions for the maintenance and use of tools, equipment, machinery, facilities, and products; established trade and professional standards and practices; and local, state, federal, and professional regulations related to safety and environmental health. Work is assigned and reviewed for thoroughness, timeliness, and conformance with instructions and quality standards by the Parks Maintenance Division Superintendent. The incumbents are expected to work independently with limited supervision.
High School Diploma / GED supplemented by (8) eight years of park and facility maintenance or an equivalent combination of formal education and related working experience.
Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; may work after-hours. This position requires working on weekends and holidays. The employee may be exposed to inclement weather conditions, variable temperatures and wet surroundings. The noise level is usually low.

- Performs maintenance and repair work to facilities and equipment such as structures, irrigation systems, playing fields, courts, equipment, trails, camp areas, picnic areas, waterfront areas, docks, and piers.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment and systems such as various mowing and trimming equipment, sprayers, hand and power tools, trucks, backhoes, irrigation systems, park and/or construction related equipment.
- Installs, repairs, replaces, or fabricates cabinets, shelves, and other wooden structure and fixtures; locks and other hardware; doors, windows, and wall partitions; and performs concrete, masonry, and metal work.
- Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, broken water lines, drains, leaky faucets, broken sprinkler heads, irrigation lines, valves, water tanks, and other related plumbing assignments.
- Performs painting assignments using brush, roller, or spray equipment; prepares surfaces for painting; applies stains, varnishes, lacquers, and enamels to a variety of buildings, structures, fixtures, and surfaces.
- Performs carpentry assignments to park locations, fixtures, structures, facilities, etc.
- Performs preventative maintenance activities such as lubricating moving parts, changing filters, adjusting and changing belts, filters, and checking fluid levels.
- Services, repairs, uses, and operates a wide variety of hand/power tools, shop equipment, instruments, and other related trades and maintenance equipment.
- Services, repairs, uses and operates a wide variety of maintenance equipment such as mower, aerator, sprayer, power equipment, tractor, backhoe, loader, edger, trimmer, weed eater, etc.
- May lead other extra hires and volunteers.
- Performs related work as required.

Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
- Knowledge of, and the ability to perform, a wide variety of grounds and building maintenance
- Knowledge of construction safety standards and occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with various trades and/or professions.
- Knowledge of standards, practices, methods, materials, tools, equipment, and park systems used in grounds, building maintenance, other park or specialized recreational facilities and other park facilities.
- Ability to operate, and maintain a wide variety of grounds and building maintenance hand/power tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance and repair work such as mechanical, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, painting, welding, and other related trade areas.
- Ability to drive, operate, and maintain equipment such as mowers, sprayers, aerators, trucks, tractors, backhoes, loaders, etc.
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work at various park locations, work a varied work schedule during seasonal or special scheduled events, and during emergency situations.
- Ability to lead, assist, provide guidance, and training.
- Ability to perform physical manual labor over extended periods of time in all types of weather.
- Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.
- Ability to order supplies and materials from various vendors.
