Under the direct supervision of Department Chair, Dental Programs and Associate Dean, Health Sciences, this person will assist faculty in the laboratory setting for both Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting courses, as needed. This person will also serve as the coordinator of the IHCC Dental Clinic, including maintaining inventory, coordinating staffing, and acting as a receptionist, working with the IHCC Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting faculty and Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting students. This position is responsible for communication with students, faculty and department chair, opening and closing the IHCC Dental Clinic, scheduling and confirming patient appointments, and use of electronic patient documentation system.
This person is also responsible for processing and collecting fees for dental hygiene billing, assist with patient insurance billing, and submitting maintenance requests. Other responsibilities may include general office duties, attending Dental Program meetings as needed and processing daily meeting minutes.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Dental Assisting degree or equivalent, preferred Dental Assistant National Board (DANB) Certified Dental Assistant OR a Dental Hygienist who has acquired the Certified Dental Assistant from DANB.
- Must have current Dental Assistant or Dental Hygienist Licensure in the State of Iowa, or ability to obtain state licensure.
- A minimum of three years full time industry experience is required.
- Must relate well to students and colleagues, and create a learning environment conducive to student learning.
- Must demonstrate a high degree of competency within the discipline to be taught.
- Must have excellent computer/keyboarding skills, including patient scheduling and electronic patient documentation software, outgoing mail, and e-mail.
- Must have strong telephone techniques, good customer service skills, good organization, ability to multi-task, and good personal skills.
- Must be able to work independently to carry out projects and tasks.
Work Performed
- Order, maintain, and control inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Prepares and submits requisitions and purchase orders for supplies, equipment, and clinic needs.
- Provide routine cleanup in the lab area.
- Assist as directed by lab instructor.
- Supports faculty with student competency assessments and skills verification.
- Maintain SDS information.
- Responsible for reviewing, updating, and communicating CDC guideline changes to faculty, staff, and students.
- Manage hazardous waste from teaching laboratories.
- Maintain lab and clinical equipment.
- Monitors, schedules, and performs routine maintenance and servicing of clinic equipment.
- Ensure that the first aid kit is adequately stocked and complies with college safety requirements.
- Assist in planning and carrying out studies and surveys.
- Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community.
- Meet all assigned program related commitments as scheduled.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
- Instill a realistic work attitude in students with clear expectations for skill development.
- Serve as receptionist to IHCC Dental Clinic.
- Follow IHCC policies and procedures.
- Follow IHCC Dental Hygiene Clinic safety protocol
- Record, edit and distribute the minutes of Dental Program meetings.
- Work closely with Department chair, Dental Programs and faculty.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and Department Chair, Dental Programs
- Utilize dental software to create new patient profiles and document patient visits.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
- Open and close IHCC Dental Clinic.
- Greet patients upon arrival to Dental Clinic.
- Process IHCC Dental Clinic billing, collect fees, and assist in patient insurance billing process.
- Process daily receipts for the Business Office
- Process outgoing mail, maintain daily emails, order office supplies, and answer dental reception phone calls.
- Order maintenance requests.
- Handle college matters with confidentiality and tact, maintaining HIPAA requirements.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
