Saturday Spanish Teacher

Independent Preschool
Washington, DC Part Time
POSTED ON 9/16/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/13/2027

Schedule: Saturdays only, 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Position Type: Part-time, ongoing
Compensation: $40–$50 per hour, depending on education and experience
Pay Schedule: Biweekly

The Socratic School of Language is seeking an experienced, energetic Spanish teacher to lead foundational Saturday Spanish instruction for children approximately ages 3–10.

Our students are beginners or emerging Spanish learners. Some may have limited prior exposure to Spanish, but students are not expected to be fluent. We are looking for a teacher who understands how to build a strong language foundation while making children comfortable speaking, listening, participating, and learning through Spanish.

This is not a babysitting or general after-school position. We are seeking a teacher who can actively teach, manage a classroom, engage young learners, and produce measurable student growth.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate should be able to:

  • Teach Spanish to young children in an active, engaging, and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Maximize the use of Spanish during class through visuals, gestures, modeling, repetition, songs, movement, games, storytelling, conversation, and hands-on activities.
  • Teach foundational vocabulary, listening comprehension, speaking, pronunciation, basic grammar concepts when developmentally appropriate, and early reading and writing skills for older students.
  • Encourage children to actually use Spanish, rather than simply memorize isolated vocabulary.
  • Differentiate instruction for students of different ages and levels within a beginning-language environment.
  • Establish routines and maintain positive but firm classroom management.
  • Meet students where they are while steadily moving them toward measurable language goals.
  • Prepare and submit a concise weekly lesson plan showing the objectives, vocabulary and language targets, activities, materials, and skills to be covered that Saturday.
  • Use and adapt the school’s existing curriculum and materials while also bringing effective personal teaching techniques, activities, and resources.
  • Observe student progress and provide the Director with useful feedback regarding student participation, strengths, areas for improvement, and overall language growth.
  • Work independently, take initiative, and arrive prepared rather than waiting to be told how to conduct each class.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong Spanish proficiency, with the ability to speak, understand, read, and write Spanish at an advanced professional level and to conduct instruction primarily in Spanish.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Experience working with children and demonstrated ability to manage and engage a group.
  • Dependability and excellent punctuality.
  • Ability to consistently report to the program location for scheduled Saturday classes.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background screening for work with children.
  • Availability every scheduled Saturday through December 2026. Because continuity is important to student learning, regular Saturday attendance is an essential requirement of the position.

Highly Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Degree, coursework, or professional background in education, Spanish, foreign-language instruction, early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching children ages 3–10.
  • Experience teaching Spanish to children who are beginners or have limited prior exposure.
  • Experience with immersion, communicative-language teaching, TPR, or other interactive language-learning methods.

Teaching Demonstration

Final candidates will be asked to complete a brief in-person teaching demonstration so that we can observe instructional style, classroom presence, use of Spanish, creativity, and ability to engage young learners.

We are especially interested in teachers who can walk into a classroom with a clear plan, make children want to participate, and create an environment in which students are excited and increasingly confident using Spanish.

Opportunity for Growth

This is an ongoing Saturday position, not a short-term seasonal assignment. A successful teacher may have the opportunity to continue with the program long term and potentially assume additional teaching responsibilities as our programs grow. Expanded employment will depend upon teacher performance, reliability, student enrollment, program needs, and demonstrated student progress.

To apply, please submit a resume and brief response describing your experience teaching Spanish to young children.
