Position Summary
The Laser Engraving Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining a 100W CO₂ laser engraving system to etch text, images, portraits, and custom designs into granite surfaces. This position requires both artistic attention to detail and technical precision to produce beautiful, permanent engravings that meet our company’s exacting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CO₂ laser engraver to etch detailed text, images, and designs onto granite memorials and plaques.
- Adjust laser parameters (power, speed, resolution, focal length) for different granite types and finishes.
- Secure granite pieces, verify alignment, and oversee the engraving process for accuracy and quality.
- Conduct test engravings for calibration and material verification.
- Inspect and clean engraved pieces, ensuring consistent, professional results.
- Perform daily calibration and preventive maintenance on the laser system and exhaust components.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace following safety and PPE protocols.
- Collaborate with design staff or customers to confirm proofs, layouts, and engraving details.
- Document production data including run times, material usage, and maintenance records.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience operating CO₂ laser engraving machines (80W–150W preferred).
- Knowledge of granite materials and finishing techniques.
- Proficiency in vector/raster design software (e.g., CorelDRAW, Illustrator, RDWorks, LightBurn).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and precision calibration skills.
- Excellent attention to visual detail and layout composition.
- Ability to lift 50–100 lbs and safely handle granite with cranes or carts.
- Reliable, organized, and self-motivated with a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Work Environment
- Climate-controlled indoor engraving workshop.
- Exposure to noise, granite particulates, and machinery.
- Use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, respirators) required during setup and cleaning.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in memorial engraving, monument production, or stone etching.
- Cross-training in sandblasting, CNC engraving, vinyl cutting, or stone restoration a plus.
