What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Impactful Resources?
The Assistant Controller will lead all accounting operations and financial reporting for the company. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, operational understanding of inventory and job costing, and the ability to build scalable processes. The Controller will play a critical role in managing the company’s first audit, supporting banking relationships, and evaluating/implementing a new ERP system.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Develop and maintain account reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Ensure proper revenue recognition, particularly tied to inventory flow and fulfillment
Cost Accounting & Inventory
- Lead job costing and margin analysis across products
- Develop deep understanding of inventory movement, batch tracking, and outsourced manufacturing flows
- Partner with operations to ensure accurate COGS and inventory valuation
- Improve controls and visibility over third-party manufacturing and supply chain data
Audit & Compliance
- Lead the company’s first external audit, including preparation of audit-ready financials and documentation
- Establish and document internal controls and accounting policies
- Ensure compliance with multi-state sales/use tax and filings
- Support any regulatory or lender reporting requirements
Treasury & Banking
- Ensure weekly / monthly bank reconciliations are accurate and completed
- Prepare and maintain borrowing base certificates and loan compliance reporting
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital
- Support forecasting and cash planning
ERP & Systems
- Evaluate, recommend, and support implementation of a new ERP system
- Optimize current systems, workflows, and reporting capabilities
- Ensure ERP supports inventory, costing, and revenue recognition requirements
Team Leadership & Operations
- Manage and develop a team of 2
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing
- Establish scalable processes and improve efficiency across the function
Technical Accounting
- Handle currency translation / foreign transactions (if applicable)
- Ensure proper treatment of complex areas including inventory and COGS, revenue recognition, and accruals and reserves
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred)
- 7-12 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in manufacturing, CPG or distribution environments strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills including MS Excel
- Cost accounting / job costing, Inventory accounting, Audit readiness, and external audit management
- Experience with ERP implementations or upgrades a big plus
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
- Experience with borrowing base / asset-based lending (ABL) preferred
- Familiarity with multi-state tax compliance a plus
- CPA nice to have
Salary : $140,000 - $160,000
