Job Summary: Immaculate Conception School is seeking a dedicated and faith-filled 7th and 8th Grade Language Arts/Religion Teacher to join our middle school team. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in English Language Arts while also teaching Religion in alignment with Catholic teachings and diocesan curriculum. This role includes preparing 7th grade students for the Sacrament of Confirmation and fostering both academic growth and spiritual development. The teacher will create a structured, supportive classroom environment through strong classroom management, effective communication, and differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners. The candidate should be committed to collaboration, continuous professional growth, and serving as a positive role model of the Catholic faith.
Education Required: Bachelor's degree
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaches Religion in alignment with diocesan curriculum and Catholic teachings;
- Prepares 7th grade students for the Sacrament of Confirmation;
- Provides standards-based instruction in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literature;
- Designs and implements engaging lessons that promote critical thinking, analysis, and effective communication;
- Creates a classroom environment that fosters a love of reading, writing, and discussion;
- Establishes and maintains effective classroom management systems that promote a structured, respectful, and productive learning environment;
- Exhibits knowledge of performance-based instruction and assessment, including writing workshops and literary analysis;
- Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse needs of middle school learners;
- Communicates effectively, efficiently, and responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership;
- Accounts for student attendance and punctuality;
- Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities;
Preferred Qualifications:
- NJ Standard Certification or CEAS/CE or working toward certification (Language Arts Literacy preferred);
- Middle school teaching experience;
- Strong background in reading and writing instruction, including composition and literary analysis;
- Experience with Google applications;
- Familiarity with current research in literacy instruction and best practices;
- Experience with educational technology and digital literacy tools;
- Knowledge of appropriate student assessment strategies for ELA;
- Effective classroom management techniques;
- Ability to design and deliver effective instruction to diverse learners;
- Strong communication and collaboration skills;
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required)
- Valid teaching certification (or eligibility) in Elementary Education (preferred)
- Experience in a classroom setting (preferred)
- Practicing Catholic or willingness to support the Catholic mission of the school
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
All applicants need to complete Virtus training and will need to have NJ Department of Education fingerprinting before entering the classroom.
