Position Summary
The Director of Student Life provides leadership and guidance for student leaders, student organizations and individual students in the development and implementation of programs that promote community, leadership, and a vibrant campus life. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students (Campus Life), the director will assist with promoting a student culture where diversity is valued, and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership.
The Director of Student Life leads a team comprised of an Assistant Director and three student leaders overseeing general and commuter specific programming while collaborating with a wide network of campus departments. The Director also manages all departmental details and general responsibilities of student life.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordination of Retention and Engagement Efforts
- In conjunction with the Associate Dean and Director of Residence Life and Housing, the Director develops and implements short and long-term strategic plans, creates best practices for assessing the quality of the overall undergraduate student experience and executes strategies to increase student satisfaction and retention that promote a vibrant campus community.
- Create a vision and plan for campus vibrancy through fun, exciting, meaningful, and worthwhile activities on and off-campus and sees to its full execution.
- Serve as a Co-Coordinator of the New Student Orientation program collaborating and overseeing all planning, staffing, programming, implementation, and evaluation of the program, as well as setting a firm foundation of engagement and creating a space for enhanced connectedness for new students.
- Supports civic engagement, holistic development, and leadership of a diverse student population by promoting involvement in student organizations, mentorships, and educational program opportunities.
- Minimize the university's exposure to liability arising from activities and ensure compliance with Commonwealth and local laws.
Departmental Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of all personnel, programs, budgets, and services within Student Life.
- Develop and manage all aspects of University programs sponsored by the Office of Student Life, including Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Block Party, and University Traditions to ensure quality of the student experience.
- Maintain effective working relationships with other University offices (e.g. Admissions, University Communications, Office of Technology Services, Facilities, Campus Safety and Protection, Dining Services, and other departments within Student Development and Engagement, etc.).
- Work in collaboration with Residence Life and Housing on new and returning student move-in.
- Oversee the effective functioning and development of Student Government Association (SGA), student clubs & organizations, and their programming and events (specifically budget & Exchange Accounts).
- Primary oversight of our digital student engagement app with the assistance from the Office of Institutional Technology and Marketing & Communications.
Supervision of Staff
- Meet regularly, develop, and lead Assistant Director, Commuter Assistant, Programming Assistants, and NSO Chairs and coordinate coverage of events and programs occurring on, and off campus sponsored by the office.
- Collaborate with DEI and Resident Life & Housing on recruitment, selection, training, and development of Campus Life student leadership positions.
- Oversee function of the IHM Student Center including student staff, hours of operation, reservations, and equipment (except The Grille on the Hill).
General Responsibilities
- Maintain awareness of University resources for helping students with academic, career, and personal concerns and to make referrals when appropriate.
- Serve on University committees, task forces, and projects as designated.
- Keep the Associate Dean of Students (Campus Life) and the Vice-President of Student Development and Undergraduate Admissions informed on all aspects of student life.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
- Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment with the ability to be flexible and work on time sensitive projects.
- Bachelor's degree
- Excellent oral and written communication skills that uphold the academic and professional integrity expected at an institution of higher learning.
- Proficient in use of office software suites, Microsoft 365 with Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Docs.
- Evening and weekend work is required.
Preferred Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in campus activities and programming preferably in a college/university setting.
- Master's degree or currently working on master's degree.

Salary : $42,200 - $53,500
