Position Summary

This role works closely with project managers, engineers, BIM leadership, vendors, and field teams to ensure designs are accurate, fully coordinated, code-compliant, and aligned with project specifications. The CAD Designer plays a key role in supporting constructability, coordination, fabrication, and efficient system routing.

The CAD Designer plays a key role in supporting constructability, coordination, fabrication, and efficient system routing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify detailed mechanical piping system drawings using AutoCAD Fabrication MEP, Revit, and Navisworks.
- Detail piping systems for coordination, fabrication, and project execution.
- Design and coordinate mechanical piping systems, including chilled water lines, hot water heating lines, equipment connections, and related layouts.
- Produce isometric spool drawings for fabrication and project coordination.
- Review project specifications, contract plans, scopes of work, and submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate system routing, equipment layouts, material requirements, fixture schedules, and specification checklists.
- Confirm DX — Direct Expansion — line sizes and lengths with vendors to support proper equipment performance and compliance with manufacturer requirements.
- Create floor sleeve and wall penetration coordination drawings with required dimensions and elevations.
- Conduct site visits as needed to verify field conditions, review installation coordination, and identify cost-saving or constructability opportunities.
- Generate RFIs with clear descriptions of conflicts and suggested resolutions for project managers.
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings and collaborate with other trades to resolve conflicts.
- Conduct quality control checks on drawings to confirm accuracy, contract compliance, and efficient system routing.
- Assist in preparing CAD shop drawings, field turnover packages, access panel verifications, fixture schedules, and other project documentation.
- Use Bluebeam Revu for document markup and collaboration.
- Use Procore for project documentation, RFI tracking, and coordination.
- Maintain strong professional relationships with general contractors, engineers, clients, vendors, project teams, and field teams.
- Attend internal and external project coordination meetings as required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience detailing mechanical piping systems.
- Experience with mechanical piping systems, or MEP design/detailing.
- Strong understanding of piping layouts, blueprints, contract documents, and construction coordination.
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Fabrication MEP, Revit, and Navisworks.
- Experience working in a BIM coordination environment and collaborating with multiple trades.
- Ability to identify design conflicts and propose practical resolutions.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and maintain accuracy with minimal supervision.
- AutoCAD Fabrication MEP — modeling and detailing mechanical piping and plumbing systems.
- Revit — BIM modeling and coordination.
- Navisworks — clash detection and coordination reviews.
- Bluebeam Revu — document markup and collaboration.
- Procore — project management, RFI tracking, and documentation.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Fabrication MEP, Revit, and Navisworks.
- Solid understanding of mechanical piping systems, blueprints, and contract documents.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to coordinate with project managers, engineers, vendors, and field personnel.
- Prior experience in mechanical contracting, HVAC piping, or commercial construction is strongly preferred.
- Must PASS drug screening with a NEGATIVE result.
