Burton, MI | Hybrid | Full-Time | $160,000–$175,000/year
A private equity backed industrial distribution company headquartered in Burton, Michigan is hiring a Controller to lead its accounting operations and partner directly with the CFO. The business supports manufacturers, OEMs, and industrial partners through customized supply programs, inventory solutions, and sourcing support, and is investing in finance technology and process improvement to scale alongside continued growth.

What You'll Do
Lead the day-to-day accounting function and manage the accounting team. Own the month-end close, balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and financial statement quality, serving as the finance quality control point before financials are finalized with the CFO. Maintain and improve internal controls appropriate for a private equity backed business, and manage cash, short-term liquidity forecasting, working capital reporting, and lender reporting.
Drive budgeting, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, and KPI reporting for branch leaders, operations, executive leadership, and the board. Identify and lead automation opportunities across close, reconciliations, and recurring reporting using BI tools, data warehouse resources, and AI where appropriate. Support M&A due diligence, quality of earnings coordination, opening balance sheet work, purchase accounting, and integration workstreams, including standardizing acquired entities into the company's close and reporting processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience
- 3 years in a senior accounting leadership role
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, month-end close, balance sheet discipline, and internal controls
- FP&A experience including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and KPI reporting
- Experience leading and developing accounting teams
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA
- Private equity backed, multi-site, manufacturing, distribution, or industrial services experience
- M&A, purchase accounting, opening balance sheet, and integration experience
- Lender reporting experience
- Epicor Prophet 21 ERP experience
- Power BI or comparable BI tool experience
- Experience implementing automation or AI in finance workflows
