Fiber Construction Project Manager

Ideatek
Buhler, KS Full Time
POSTED ON 4/26/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/26/2026
Description:

Are you a driven project manager who thrives in fast-paced construction environments and enjoys solving complex challenges? Do you take pride in keeping projects on track, collaborating across teams, and finding creative solutions to get the job done?

At IdeaTek, we’re expanding our fiber network across Kansas—and that means managing large-scale construction projects with tight timelines and high impact. We’re looking for a Fiber Construction Project Manager to help lead these efforts and support the successful delivery of our growing infrastructure.

In this role, you’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to manage construction projects from early planning through completion. You’ll play a key role in keeping projects on schedule, within budget, and moving forward—while helping bring high-speed internet to communities across the state.

Location: This role is based in the eastern region of the state Kansas—ideal candidates will live in or near Emporia, Topeka, Kansas City, or Pittsburg.

A Day in the Life

You’ll start your day reviewing project timelines, priorities, and any active challenges across your assigned builds. From there, you might be coordinating with engineering on route design, working with contractors on pricing, or troubleshooting a permitting issue with a local municipality.

Some days you’ll be in the field—driving routes, visiting job sites, or meeting with stakeholders to move projects forward. Other days, you’ll be managing schedules, tracking materials, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure everything is aligned. No matter the day, you’re focused on keeping projects progressing and solving problems before they become roadblocks.

What You'll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive construction routes and partner with fiber engineering to define project scope, priorities, schedules, and budgets
  • Support early project phases including design, estimating, permitting, and procurement
  • Coordinate with internal project leadership to obtain competitive pricing from construction contractors
  • Manage project timelines, ensuring clear communication of progress, risks, and constraints to stakeholders
  • Monitor material availability and coordinate resources to keep projects on track
  • Identify and proactively manage risks such as permitting challenges, construction obstacles, and budget impacts
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including municipalities, agencies, and property owners
  • Visit job sites and permitting offices as needed to gather information, resolve issues, and support project progress
  • Apply creative problem-solving to identify cost-effective solutions, especially in complex or dense build areas

What Will Help You Stand Out

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field
  • Experience in telecommunications construction, outside plant (OSP), or fiber network projects
  • Knowledge of construction methods including underground (vaults, duct, cable placement) and aerial (pole attachments, tension/sag)
  • Familiarity with fiber mapping tools such as Vetro or similar platforms
  • Experience with permitting processes and working with municipalities or government agencies

Desired Attributes

Beyond the qualifications, these attributes are what make someone a great fit for our team:

  • Self-motivated and driven – You take ownership and push projects forward without constant direction
  • Strong communicator – You keep stakeholders informed and aligned at every stage
  • Problem-solver – You think critically and find creative solutions to complex challenges
  • Organized and adaptable – You manage details effectively while adjusting to shifting priorities
  • Collaborative – You work well across teams and with external partners
  • Influential – You can guide conversations and drive decisions that keep projects moving
