Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Deputy Director of Engineeringto work on our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) Engineering team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located at MFC of with every Friday off.

Idaho National Laboratory needs Directors to shape the future of nuclear technology and critical national infrastructure through leadership that drives high-impact initiatives from pioneering nuclear energy solutions to advancing cybersecurity and space systems, securing America's energy and technological leadership with breakthroughs that redefine energy security. You'll manage activities through second or third level managers overseeing professional employees and subordinate managers from multiple disciplines, be responsible for effective operation of activities of major significance to the organization, manage complex programs that have critical impact on the directorate or laboratory, and be accountable for the division budget ensuring budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained. Your responsibilities include being responsible for multiple functions, organizations, locations, departments, and technical disciplines, helping develop overall goals and long-term goals of the division and directorate, establishing and administering operational objectives, procedures, and work plans while delegating assignments, developing and executing company policies affecting immediate operations with potential company-wide effects, working with lower and senior management on matters concerning several departments and customers, applying knowledge to convince partners on desired departmental outcomes, and typically performing all work through management of others.

This position is located at our Materials and Fuels Complex, which hosts the core of the U.S. nuclear research and development capabilities with a diverse array of facilities designed for remote work on highly irradiated fuels and materials. A new fuel idea can be designed, fabricated, tested, and analyzed at MFC to better understand the effects of irradiation. Many groups, such as universities, industry partners, other national laboratories, international research organizations, and other federal agencies are working at MFC.

  • Accountable for the division budget, ensuring that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.
  • Responsible for multiple functions, organizations, locations, departments, and technical disciplines.
  • Help develop overall goals and long-term goals of the division and the directorate.
  • Establish and administer operational objectives, procedures, and work plans, delegating assignments to your team.
  • Develop, and execute company policies that affect immediate operations and may have company-wide effects.
  • Work with lower and senior management on matters concerning several departments, departments, and customers.
  • Apply knowledge to convince other partners on desired departmental outcomes.
  • Typically, all work is performed through the management of others.
  • Position typically reports to a Sr. Director or Senior Leadership.

Required

  • Degree in engineering or relevant field of study/practice.
  • 5 years experience in management.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information

The target pay range for this position is $184,006 – $265,828 annually. The full pay range is $127,596 - $331,752. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
