Come join a great team at State Hospital West (SHW)! We are seeking a Psychiatric Treatment Coordinator for SHW located in Nampa. SHW is a 16-bed Adolescent Psychiatric Treatment Hospital (for adolescents between 12 and 17 years old) nestled between Ridgecrest and Centennial golf courses on a picturesque piece of state property along the Nampa Interstate 84 corridor. SHW provides psychiatric inpatient treatment care for Idaho's adolescent citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living and is accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

This position also requires applicants to become certified in CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.
This position is not eligible for telework.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
GENERAL
- A willingness to have daily intensive contact with adolescent psychiatric patients.
- A knowledge of therapeutic techniques used to treat mentally ill patients, common mental illnesses, symptoms, behaviors, and appropriate techniques for de-escalation.
- Record keeping, database entry, computer experience, and patient charting.
- Ability to work with guardians, service providers and family members to ensure completion of all forms and documentation.
PSYCHOSOCIAL TREATMENT AND PATIENT CARE
- Participate in patient treatment planning and development in conjunction with the unit leadership team.
- Observe, record, and report patient behavior, changes in behavior, interventions, and effectiveness of interventions.
- Assist patients to interpret their treatment plan.
- Schedule treatment team staffing and visits. May monitor and document observations and notes.
- Monitor referral request and obtain needed information to present referrals to the treatment team. Communicate with referring agency and families on treatment team decision. Communicate with families on the admission process and answer questions as they arise.
- Assist with and/or conduct recreational activities, daily living skills, motivation, groups, etc.
- Other case management activities that do not require a clinical license as requested by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. - Good knowledge of therapeutic techniques used to treat mentally ill patients. Typically gained by successful completion of 1-3 college level courses (300 or 400 level) in the areas of psychology, social work, counseling, human behavior AND one year of experience in the mental health field utilizing therapeutic techniques in treating mentally ill patients. Experience must be in a controlled setting where you were responsible for implementing formal or prescribed therapeutic programs for others OR at least two years' experience as described above.
- Good knowledge of common mental illnesses and symptoms. Typically gained by successful completion of 1-3 college level courses (300 or 400 level) in the areas of psychology, social work, counseling or human behavior OR at least one year experience working in the mental health field in a position which required a good knowledge level of common mental illnesses, symptoms, and appropriate terminology as predominate responsibility of the job.
- Good knowledge of civil and legal rights of institutionalized persons. Typically gained by at least three months experience working at the professional or paraprofessional level with institutional patients. Practicum, field work or internship experience may qualify or through a college course of one, 4–6-hour seminar, workshop or program dealing with the civil and legal rights of institutionalized patients.
- Experience implementing treatment plans. Typically gained by at least two years' experience working in a position in the mental health field which required implementing treatment plans. This experience would include identifying and describing behavior, therapeutic record keeping and making written documentation, providing input to the treatment team when the plan is being developed, helping coordinate service delivery and evaluating the effectiveness of the plan.
- Experience leading therapeutic activity groups. Typically gained by at least two years' experience working in a position in the mental health field which required leading or assisting a therapeutic activity group as a regular part of your job responsibilities (1-2 times per month) OR by a six-month supervised practicum, internship or field work experience specific to working with therapeutic activity groups in the mental health field.
Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.
- A bachelor’s degree in social services or related field.
- Experience providing case management services to youth with serious emotional disturbances. Typically gained by 6-month work experience.
- Basic understanding of mental health system in Idaho and how to connect youth/families to community-based resources. Typically gained by 6-month work experience.
- Knowledge of mental health practices in adolescent psychiatric care facilities. Typically gained by 6-month work experience.
- Ability to both works independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members. Typically gained by 6-month work experience.
