The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Maintenance Technician. This position will be located at our Morrison Knudsen Nature Center located in Boise, Idaho. This position is a year-round benefited temporary position and will work up to 30 hours a week. Work schedules may include weekends and holidays. The MK Nature Center is a 4.9-acre wildlife habitat with a visitor center, underwater viewing windows, paths, bridges, gardens and ponds. Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s mission is to…. “preserve, protect, perpetuate and manage wildlife for future generations…” To that end, the MK Nature Center provides demonstration habitat, events, classes, and displays to teach visitors about wildlife in Idaho.

General Information:

Incumbents may work in all weather conditions. This position also involves, with or without reasonable accommodations, physical activities associated with construction work such as lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 100 pounds, bending, stooping, and working at heights. Work may be required in remote and rugged terrain.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage water flow through streams and ponds by overseeing wells, pumps, valves, and weirs.
  • Maintain outdoor features such as bridges, benches, signs, pavers, and pathways.
  • Repair and construct wooden structures, fences, and outbuildings.
  • Repair and maintain interior infrastructure including but not limited to carpets, tiles, paint, drywall, trim, lighting, plumbing, and hardware.
  • Oversee seasonal irrigation for 5 acres.
  • Train team members and actively participate in snow and leaf removal.
  • Directing daily tasks for temporary employees including but not limited to window washing, sweeping, raking, trash removal, and pruning.
  • Procure, maintain, and safely store both hand and power tools.
  • Document and track maintenance activities, maintaining accurate records for reference and future planning.
  • Assess and prioritize maintenance needs.
  • Engage and coordinate volunteers in maintenance projects.
  • Provide customer service to visitors by offering directions, explaining educational features, and providing information about the wildlife habitat.
  • Responsible for monitoring and building wildlife habitat (plantings for wildlife, wildlife shelters, water sources, over and understory vegetation enhancement and management).
  • Attend required meetings.

Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.)

  • Some knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or general building maintenance.
  • Experience performing semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or building maintenance repair.
  • Experience using, repairing, and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Qualification Specialty: (Required for the current opening)

  • Experience with irrigation and landscaping
  • Experience working as a team lead.
  • Experience planning and coordinating maintenance projects.
