What are the responsibilities and job description for the Garage Door Technician position at IBP?
Pay: $20–$22 per hour (based on experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Install residential and light commercial garage doors and openers
- Perform service and repair work (springs, cables, rollers, tracks, openers, etc.)
- Safely remove and replace existing garage doors and components
- Load, unload, and transport doors, parts, and tools
- Follow company safety procedures and job site standards
- Communicate professionally with customers and team members
- Complete job documentation as required
- Participate in cross-training opportunities in insulation, gutter, and shelving divisions as needed
Basic Requirements
- General knowledge of hand and power tools
- Basic understanding of garage door systems (or willingness to learn)
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and perform physical labor
- Comfortable working on ladders and at heights
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong work ethic; punctual and dependable
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Experience (Preferred but Not Required)
- Prior garage door installation or service experience
- Construction, mechanical, or trade experience
- Electrical or mechanical troubleshooting skills
Physical Demand:
As a garage door installer, the physical demands of the job involve heavy lifting, climbing, bending, squatting, and working at heights. Installers regularly lift and carry heavy door panels and use tools to install and secure components. The work requires strength, endurance, and manual dexterity, as well as precision when handling tools. Installers also work in varying weather conditions and tight spaces, often for long hours.
