In this position, you won’t just be "balancing books"—you will be the financial architect ensuring that state and federal highway funds are managed, reconciled, and released to keep Arizona moving.
What You’ll Do
As a Project Accountant, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering projects and federal financial compliance. Your day-to-day will involve:
- Financial Oversight: Reconciling and closing ADOT projects to ensure the timely release of funds for future infrastructure needs.
- Compliance Leadership: Validating that all project costs align with GAAP standards and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) rules and regulations.
- Strategic Analysis: Researching project discrepancies, analyzing contract data, and providing actionable solutions for process improvements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Acting as a key liaison between federal agencies, local governments, and various internal ADOT departments.
- Reporting & Documentation: Preparing final voucher forms and processing financial adjustments to maintain an audit-ready trail.
What You Bring
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Experience: At least 1 year of professional accounting experience (government or project accounting is a plus).
- Analytical Mindset: A knack for researching technical data issues and interpreting complex contract language.
- Tech Savvy: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to navigate financial databases.
