Job Summary
HRI, Inc, a leader in heavy civil construction since 1947, has an opening for an energetic individual looking to complete an Internship for the summer of 2026. We are looking for a highly skilled individual that will be a great asset to our team. HRI is part of a global construction leader, Colas, and is a great place to build a career!
As an intern, you will perform a variety of engineering tasks, supporting various project managers and collaborating with team members. You will receive both on-the-job and formal training as well as mentorship, and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions. You should be a motivated team player who can maintain efficiency and accuracy when multitasking.
Through our internship, we hope to offer a rewarding experience for the candidate, which will help add real world experience to their resume, as well as provide a fresh outlook and feedback on our current practices and processes.To be a strong candidate for an internship, you should have an understanding of engineering principles and concepts. You should be collaborative, trustworthy, receptive to feedback, eager to learn, and have a positive attitude.
Main Responsibilities
Shadowing members of the management team as they perform their duties
Assisting with research, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records
Handling sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity
Learning how to work as part of the region team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the company
Taking on additional tasks or projects to learn more about operations
Comparing item cost to estimations from bids- understand if we are losing or gaining money
Engineering layout
Assist in developing a project schedule
Subcontractor coordination
Calculation of quantities of materials for work to be performed (i.e. Asphalt, Gravel)
Maintain accurate daily quantities
Ensure materials are delivered and ordered correctly in a timely manner
Prepare purchase orders and subcontracts
Review cost reports and check for accuracy
Project correspondence with subcontractors and the owner
Maintain Safety records
Education
Must be actively working towards a Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Skills
Aptitude for math, proficiency with computers
Strong verbal and written communication skills
High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility
Motivation and strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible
Some travel required
