Job Title: Abrams Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Location: Fort Hood, Texas
Job Summary:
We are seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanics to support maintenance operations at Fort Cavazos, TX. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with Abrams Tank variants (M1A1 SA, M1A2 SEP V2, SEP V3) and be skilled in maintenance, troubleshooting, and modification work orders (MWOs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on Abrams tank variants
- Execute Modification Work Orders (MWOs) on M1A1ED, M1A2 SEP V2 & V3 platforms
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical systems using technical manuals and flow diagrams
- Maintain accountability of special tools, test equipment, and government property
- Support maintenance, fielding, and retrofit operations as required
- Work collaboratively with government personnel and team members
- Perform additional duties assigned by maintenance leadership
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of mechanical maintenance experience (Abrams tank experience preferred)
- Basic knowledge of military vehicle tools and test equipment
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to access U.S. military installations (NACI clearance if required)
- Valid State Driver’s License (ability to obtain tank driver’s license)
- Ability to pass Abrams Job Proficiency Certification
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Capable of working in extreme weather conditions
- Must meet anthropometric requirements (ASR) for enclosed military vehicle operation
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel as needed for GDLS field operations
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
- Strong adherence to safety and operational procedures
