We are seeking a Technical/Product Documentation Specialist who can create clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation for our FinTech platform, with the added capability to translate technical innovations into structured invention disclosures and contribute to utility patent documentation. This role sits at the intersection of product, engineering, and intellectual property, requiring the ability to understand complex technical systems while explaining product features, user workflows, system behavior, and integration steps to a wide range of audiences.
Responsibilities:
- Product Documentation: Develop end-to-end product documentation including user guides, feature documentation, functional overviews, merchant onboarding guides, product workflows, process maps, release notes, and feature announcements.
- Product Documentation: Document product behavior, edge cases, and configuration options.
- Utility Patent Documentation: Analyze product features, technical capabilities, workflows, and system architecture to identify potential patentable innovations.
- Utility Patent: Prepare comprehensive utility patent application drafts, including detailed descriptions, drawings, flow diagrams, use cases, and system embodiments.
- Utility Patent: Develop invention disclosures and organize supporting technical materials for internal review. Coordinate with external patent counsel for filing, revisions, office actions, and final prosecution.
- Technical Documentation: Create and maintain API documentation (REST, webhooks, authentication), Integration guides for developers, Architecture overviews, and system diagrams.
- Technical Documentation: Work closely with engineering teams to understand technical designs, data flows, and backend processes.
- Technical Documentation: Ensure documentation aligns with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), architectural updates, and the product roadmap.
- Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, and best practices.
- Maintain consistent tone, terminology, and formatting across all content.
- Regularly update documentation to reflect new releases and enhancements.
- Create visuals such as flowcharts, sequence diagrams, and architecture diagrams to improve clarity.
- Contribute to internal knowledge base as needed with technical information, updates, and instructional documents
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- 5 years of experience writing product and technical documentation, preferably in FinTech, Payments, Banking, or SaaS.
- Strong understanding of: Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), APIs, webhooks, and integration patterns, System architecture concepts (cloud services, microservices, data flows)
- Prior experience drafting or supporting utility patent applications, preferably involving software, APIs, payment systems, identity verification, transaction processing, or financial technologies.
- Familiarity with USPTO guidelines for software and business-method utility patents.
- Ability to learn complex technical and product concepts quickly.
- Exceptional written communication skills with a proven ability to simplify complex technical ideas.
- Hands-on experience with documentation tools such as Confluence, Notion, Swagger/OpenAPI, Markdown, Git-based documentation, or similar.
- Experience documenting payment flows, KYC/KYB, risk engines, compliance workflows, or transaction monitoring systems.
- Experience using diagramming tools (Lucidchart, Draw.io, Figma, Visio).
