What are the responsibilities and job description for the Warehouse Compliance & People Manager position at HydroJug?
Warehouse Compliance & People Manager
HydroJug, Inc. · Ogden, UT · Full-Time · On-Site
About the Role
This role owns the two things that keep the distribution center running and protect HydroJug's margin: the people on the floor and the compliance that keeps every shipment clean. It is a hands-on manager role — you lead the warehouse hourly workforce day to day (hiring, payroll, safety, performance) and you own retail compliance end-to-end across all three HydroJug brands and every retail channel.
You report to the Director of Warehouse Operations and you are both the floor's people manager and its compliance authority. Most of the warehouse team is Spanish-speaking, so this role requires fluent Spanish and English — you lead, train, and resolve issues in both languages every day.
The mandate is high-stakes on both sides: a safe, fully-staffed, well-run floor with accurate payroll and low turnover — and zero chargebacks, labeling fines, or packaging rejections on the compliance side.
Responsibilities
People & Workforce Management
- Own day-to-day people management for the warehouse floor — hiring, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, performance management, and terminations for hourly associates
- Run warehouse payroll in partnership with Finance/Payroll — timekeeping, hours and overtime approval, attendance, PTO; every pay period accurate and on time
- Lead a primarily Spanish-speaking workforce — communicate, train, and manage in both Spanish and English
- Keep the floor staffed to throughput — partner with recruiting and staffing agencies to fill seats ahead of volume
- Own employee relations — disciplinary action, documentation, conflict resolution, and terminations handled fairly and in line with labor law
Warehouse Safety & Compliance
- Own the warehouse safety program — OSHA compliance, bilingual safety training, incident reporting and investigation, and workers' comp coordination
- Build and maintain safety SOPs; drive a zero-incident culture through training and accountability
- Keep the DC audit-ready for safety and labor compliance at all times
Retail Compliance — Labeling, Routing Guides, Packaging, Chargebacks
- Own labeling requirements across all brands and retail accounts — UPC accuracy, RFID, GS1 standards, and retailer-specific specs (Target DPCI, Walmart item numbers, Costco vendor labels)
- Maintain routing guide documentation for every active account (Target, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, Costco, etc.); translate requirements into floor SOPs and run pre-ship audits
- Own packaging compliance specs and pre-production approval workflows by retailer
- Run the chargeback prevention root-cause program — track by type/retailer/cause, dispute with Finance, and close the loop with floor SOPs so root causes don't recur
- Own compliance training for floor teams (bilingual) and keep SOPs current
Qualifications
Required
- Fluent in Spanish and English — you manage and train a Spanish-speaking floor every day
- 4 years managing an hourly warehouse / DC / manufacturing workforce — including hiring, performance management, and terminations
- Hands-on payroll and timekeeping experience for an hourly team (hours approval, attendance, overtime)
- Warehouse safety / OSHA compliance experience — safety programs, training, incident handling, workers' comp
- Experience owning retail compliance — routing guides, labeling, packaging, and chargebacks for major national retailers (Target, Walmart, Costco, or comparable), including their compliance portals (Retail Link, Partners Online)
Preferred
- Working knowledge of GS1 standards, UPC/barcode structures, and RFID labeling
- HR / employee-relations training; familiarity with labor law and documentation standards
- Consumer goods / hard goods / drinkware brand or 3PL background
- Amazon FC / high-throughput DC experience (pick rates, WMS discipline, OTIF)
Traits
- Bilingual leader who earns trust on the floor and holds a standard
- Prevention mindset — measures success by what doesn't happen (no injuries, no chargebacks, no payroll errors)
- Organized and deadline-driven — payroll runs, retailer windows, and safety audits don't move
- Comfortable building structure where some doesn't yet exist
Why This Role
- Dual ownership — you run the floor's people and its compliance, the two things that most directly protect throughput and margin
- Real leadership — you manage the hourly team directly, in their language, with authority over hiring, performance, and pay
- Visibility — your work touches Finance (payroll, chargebacks), Product, Sales, and Operations
- Scope growth — as HydroJug adds headcount, brands, and retail accounts, this role grows with it
