About the Role
The Payroll Clerk / Benefits Administrator keeps two essentials running smoothly for our team: getting people paid accurately and on time, and making sure their benefits are set up and supported. This role exists because our employees deserve a dependable, knowledgeable point of contact for everything related to their pay and benefits. You will own day-to-day payroll processing while also administering health, retirement, and other benefit programs, serving as the trusted bridge between employees, internal teams, and outside carriers.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process payroll accurately and on time for hourly, salaried, and commissioned employees.
- Review and verify timesheets; calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and process new hires, terminations, and pay changes.
- Calculate and remit payroll taxes and prepare required filings, including W-2s and quarterly returns.
- Process garnishments, levies, and other involuntary deductions in line with regulations.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and research and resolve discrepancies.
- Respond to employee questions about pay, deductions, and timekeeping with clarity and care.
Benefits Administration
- Administer health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement (401(k)) plans.
- Manage open enrollment, new-hire enrollment, and qualifying-event changes.
- Reconcile monthly benefits invoices and process payments.
- Maintain compliance with ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and FMLA requirements.
- Serve as the liaison between employees and benefits carriers and brokers.
- Keep benefits records current and prepare related reporting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0–2 years of experience in payroll, benefits administration, HR, or a closely related role.
- Familiarity with payroll or HRIS systems (for example, ADP, Paychex, or Workday).
- Working knowledge of payroll and benefits compliance basics.
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Clear, friendly communication skills and strong organizational habits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, human resources, business, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience processing multi-state payroll.
- Exposure to benefits open enrollment or carrier coordination.
- Progress toward or completion of a relevant certification (FPC, CPP, PHR, or CEBS).
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, growing company.
Success in the First 12 Months
- You process every payroll cycle accurately and on time, with discrepancies caught and resolved early.
- Employees see you as a reliable, approachable resource for pay and benefits questions.
- Benefits enrollments, changes, and invoice reconciliations are handled cleanly and on schedule.
- Payroll and benefits records are well organized, audit-ready, and compliant.
- You have built strong working relationships with employees, internal partners, and outside carriers.
Location and Reporting
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Ogden, UT. The Payroll Clerk / Benefits Administrator reports to the Human Resources or Finance leader overseeing payroll and benefits.
