What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Photographer position at HydroJug?
Senior Photographer
HydroJug, Inc. | Creative Team / Photography Ogden, UT | On-Site | Full-Time | Reports to
Creative Director (Josh Kohler)
About the Role
HydroJug is looking for an experienced commercial photographer to own our lifestyle
photography. The Senior Photographer owns the photo pipeline end to end: taking a creative
brief, building the shot list, executing on set, and delivering finished retouched files. You will
shoot HydroJug's campaigns, launches, and everyday content, support other brands we work
with when they need coverage, and hold the color and quality bar across all of it. You partner
with the Creative Director on direction and brand standards, and own execution and delivery
outright.
Responsibilities
Photography
- Lifestyle Photography: Shoot HydroJug's lifestyle content across campaigns, product launches, and ongoing everyday needs; carry the same standard onto other brands when they need coverage
- On-Set Execution: Own lighting, composition, and set coordination on every shoot, in studio and on location; direct talent and make the calls that get the shot
Post-Production
- Editing & Retouching: Take everything you shoot from raw file to final delivery, doing your own retouching to a commercial standard; hold color accuracy and stylistic consistency across brands
Planning
- Shot Lists & Pre-Production: Turn creative briefs into shot lists before every shoot, and flag what a brief is missing rather than discovering it on set
- Shoot Logistics: Support scheduling, talent, location, and prop coordination so shoot days run on time
Equipment & Studio
- Gear & Space: Manage an assortment of company-owned camera bodies, lenses, and lighting equipment, along with the studio space, including setup, upkeep, and what needs replacing
Qualifications
Required
- 5 years of commercial photography experience, with lifestyle work for consumer or DTC brands in your portfolio
- Track record executing shoots start to finish: planning, shooting, editing, delivery
- Strong studio and location lighting skills, including mixed and available light
- Proficient in Lightroom, Capture One, and Photoshop, or close equivalents
- Able to do your own editing and retouching to a commercial standard, from raw file through final export
- Demonstrated ability to shoot to someone else's brand guidelines without dropping quality
- Detail-oriented on color accuracy and brand consistency, and reliable under launch and campaign deadlines
- Able to travel occasionally for on-location shoots
- The portfolio matters more to us than the résumé. If you have fewer than five years behind you but the work is there, apply anyway and let it speak for itself.
Preferred
- Ecommerce, retail, DTC, or consumer-goods domain background
- Able to shoot and edit across a range of styles rather than one signature look
- Strong file management and asset organization habits
- Familiarity with how photography gets used downstream across web, email, paid, and retail
Success Criteria
- First 30 Days: You know the brand guidelines, you've met the creative team, and you've executed your first shoot.
- 60 Days: You're shooting HydroJug's lifestyle content independently, with consistent quality and on-time delivery.
- 90 Days: You own your part of the photo pipeline, including shot lists, shoots, and edits, with little oversight needed from the Creative Director.
Location and Reporting
Reports to the Creative Director (Josh Kohler) as a senior individual contributor with no direct
reports. Partners closely with the Creative Director on brand direction and shot approval, with
brand and marketing leads on campaign and launch requirements, and with the creative and
content teams as the primary internal consumers of the photography. Some travel required for
on-location shoots. On-site in Ogden, UT.
Physical Requirements
Shoot days involve standing and moving for extended periods, frequently lifting and carrying
camera and lighting equipment and cases weighing up to 50 pounds, and setting up and
breaking down gear. Location work can mean varied terrain, weather, and indoor and outdoor
conditions. Reasonable accommodations will be considered.
How to Apply
A portfolio is required. Submit a link to your work along with your application, and if it is
password-protected, include the password. We are looking for strong commercial lifestyle
photography.
